Job Title: Wrestling Coach
Reports To: Building Principal/Athletic Director
Location: Southfield A&T High School
Start Date/End Date: November 2026- March 2027
Salary: $4,200.00 Stipend per the SEA CBA
Job Summary:
The Wrestling Coach is responsible for directing, developing, and leading the high school wrestling program in alignment with the school's mission and athletic philosophy. The coach fosters skill development, teamwork, sportsmanship, and academic achievement while maintaining a safe and positive environment for all student-athletes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan, organize, and oversee all phases of the wrestling program, including practices, matches, tournaments, and team meetings.
- Teach proper wrestling techniques, conditioning, and strategy while ensuring safety and compliance with rules and regulations.
- Develop structured practice plans that focus on technical improvement, strength, agility, and mental toughness.
- Promote good sportsmanship, discipline, and respect among athletes, coaches, officials, and spectators.
- Communicate effectively with athletes, parents, and school staff regarding schedules, expectations, and academic eligibility.
- Ensure compliance with all district, league, and state athletic association policies.
- Supervise athletes at all practices, competitions, and team functions.
- Maintain accurate inventory of wrestling equipment and uniforms and ensure all are in safe, usable condition.
- Support the academic success of student-athletes and collaborate with teachers and counselors as needed.
- Recruit and mentor assistant coaches to support program growth and consistency.
- Represent the school and program in a professional manner at all meets, clinics, and community events.
Qualifications:
- Previous wrestling and/or wrestling coaching experience required (high school or collegiate level preferred).
- Strong knowledge of wrestling techniques, rules, and safety procedures.
- CPR, First Aid, and Concussion Awareness certification (or ability to obtain prior to the season).
- Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to model integrity, commitment, and teamwork.
- Must meet all district and state athletic association certification requirements.
