Musashi Japanese Fusion is looking for a dependable, hands-on Sous Chef with Japanese cuisine experience to lead our kitchen. You ll take ownership of daily kitchen operations, from preparing and cooking food to managing inventory, food costs, and staffing.
We re looking for someone who takes pride in great food, can lead by example, and knows how to keep a kitchen organized and running smoothly through a busy service.
What you ll do
- Lead the kitchen team and oversee daily kitchen operations.
- Prepare and cook Japanese and Japanese-fusion dishes while maintaining consistent quality and presentation.
- Organize daily prep, assign tasks, and make sure stations are ready for service.
- Help recruit, train, schedule, and guide kitchen staff.
- Manage inventory, ordering, receiving, and proper food storage.
- Monitor food costs, portion sizes, waste, and product usage.
- Maintain food safety, cleanliness, and organization throughout the kitchen.
- Keep service moving efficiently and step in wherever needed during busy shifts.
- Work directly with the owner on kitchen needs, staffing, and operations.
What we re looking for
- Professional experience cooking Japanese cuisine is required.
- Previous experience leading or supervising kitchen staff.
- Strong cooking, prep, organization, and communication skills.
- Experience with inventory and food-cost control.
- A reliable, hands-on leader who sets clear expectations and works well with a team.
- Availability to work a full-time schedule, including evenings and weekends.
