Location: Sterling Heights, MI
Employment Type: Contract
Pay Range: $50-$56/hour

About the Role

Our client is seeking a Software Developer with 4+ years of experience to support the development and maintenance of embedded application software for a new ground combat vehicle program. You will contribute throughout the full software development lifecycle, including requirements, architecture and design, coding, testing, hardware/software integration, debugging, and software releases. This position is 100% onsite due to the nature of the work.

What You Will Do

  • Develop software documentation and code across vehicle domains such as board support, cybersecurity, displays, or downloading.
  • Perform software requirements analysis.
  • Develop preliminary and detailed software designs using department-approved design tools and standards.
  • Develop C++ code in accordance with established department standards and procedures.
  • Develop test procedures and perform unit and functional testing of executable software.
  • Perform hardware/software integration.
  • Debug software issues identified throughout multiple testing phases.
  • Provide development task status updates to software project leads.
  • Contribute to software releases involving multiple developers.
  • Interface with other departments and business units, including Systems Engineering and Software Quality.
  • Participate in Agile Scrum ceremonies.
  • Support continuous improvement processes and methodologies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

What You Bring to the Table

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • 4+ years of experience in a related software development role.
  • Strong C++ development experience.
  • Experience with DOS.
  • Experience with Git, GitLab, and/or Bitbucket.
  • Experience with one or more of the following: Java, C#, C, Python, or Qt.
  • Experience working with mixed operating system environments such as VxWorks, Linux, RTOS, virtualization, BSPs, and GVOS.
  • Experience with serial and network protocols such as RS-232/422, CAN, TCP/IP, and UDP/IP.
  • Experience with DDS, Kafka, or other publish/subscribe middleware.
  • Experience with Agile processes and tools.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to work occasional evening and/or weekend overtime as required.

  • Previous experience working in the defense industry.
  • Experience with ground combat vehicle network architecture.
  • Experience with GCIA, MOSA, SOSA, or FACE.
  • Familiarity with Type 1/2 hypervisors.
  • Experience with containerization technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Familiarity with IoT concepts.
  • Experience with Cameo Systems Modeler.
  • Experience with Time Sensitive Networking (TSN) architectures.
  • Experience with NGVA (NATO Ground Vehicle Architecture) data models.
  • Experience with UKGVA (UK Ground Vehicle Architecture) data models.
  • Experience with Data Distribution Service (DDS).
  • Experience with UDP, TCP, and multicast networking.

Clearance Requirements

  • This position requires eligibility to obtain a U.S. security clearance. Non-U.S. citizens may not be eligible to obtain a security clearance.
  • The contract house will hold the required clearance.

Additional Requirements

  • Must be able to climb on and off, work in, and work around military vehicles.
  • Must be able to pass an ASR (Anthropometric Size Requirement) test for confined-space access.
  • Travel of up to 10% may be required periodically.
