Your Opportunity

At Schwab, you're empowered to make an impact on your career. Here, innovative thought meets creative problem solving, helping us challenge the status quo and transform the finance industry together. We believe in the importance of in-office collaboration and fully intend for the selected candidate for this role to work on site in the specified location(s).

Schwab is seeking a Software Developer to join Enterprise Architecture Solutions Engineering within Enterprise Architecture and the Office of the Chief Technology Officer (CTO). As a Software Developer within Enterprise Architecture Solutions Engineering, you will help shape the future of how engineering teams across Schwab build, govern, and scale AI-powered solutions. This is a hands-on software engineering role where you will design and deliver production-ready capabilities that accelerate innovation while maintaining the security, reliability, and governance standards required in a large enterprise environment. In this role, you'll contribute to a portfolio of platforms and services that enable developers to build with AI more effectively, including agentic frameworks, governance solutions, architecture assessment tooling, and enterprise engineering platforms. Using strong software engineering fundamentals and emerging AI technologies, you'll solve complex technical challenges, develop scalable solutions, and partner closely with architects, engineers, and cross-functional stakeholders to deliver business impact. Your ability to learn quickly, adapt to new technologies, and apply sound engineering judgment will be critical as priorities evolve across products, cloud environments, and AI frameworks. You'll also have opportunities to expand your expertise in areas such as generative AI, agentic systems, model orchestration, evaluation frameworks, cloud-native development, and responsible AI practices. Working alongside highly skilled technology professionals, you'll contribute to innovative solutions that help engineering teams across Schwab deliver with greater speed, consistency, and confidence.

What you have

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent professional experience.
  • 4+ years of experience designing, building, and supporting enterprise software applications.
  • Demonstrated experience applying strong software engineering fundamentals, including object-oriented design principles, software design patterns, and scalable application architecture.
  • Experience developing and delivering software solutions that solve complex business and technical problems through analytical thinking and sound engineering practices.
  • Hands-on experience with at least one of the following areas: agentic systems and orchestration, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), prompt and context engineering, generative AI, or large language model (LLM) applications.
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly, collaborate effectively across teams, and translate complex requirements into actionable solutions.
  • Working knowledge of cloud-based application development, deployment, scalability, and operational support.
  • Experience designing, consuming, or integrating APIs and distributed services.
  • Understanding of relational, NoSQL, or vector database concepts and data modeling principles.
  • Experience applying software development lifecycle (SDLC) practices, including testing, code quality, and continuous improvement.
  • Demonstrated commitment to security, privacy, risk awareness, and responsible AI practices.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience building or supporting enterprise AI platforms, tools, or developer enablement solutions.
  • Experience with model evaluation, AI governance, guardrails, and risk management frameworks.
  • Experience working with GCP, AWS, Azure, or other cloud platforms in production environments.
  • Exposure to agent orchestration frameworks, model context protocols (MCP), vector databases, embeddings, or knowledge retrieval systems.
  • Experience developing full-stack or backend applications within cloud-native environments.
  • Familiarity with agile development practices and cross-functional engineering teams.
  • Demonstrated learning agility with the ability to quickly adopt emerging technologies and new technical domains.
  • Strong collaboration skills and experience working with architects, product teams, and engineering stakeholders to deliver shared outcomes.

In addition to the salary range, this role is eligible for bonus or incentive opportunities.
