Job Summary

Our client is seeking a Site Safety Manager to provide health, safety, and environmental (HSE) management and oversight for construction project activities. The role will develop and implement project-specific HSE plans, oversee contractors and field activities, conduct safety inspections, support incident investigations, and advise project management on HSE compliance. The position also provides technical guidance to contractors and supports the overall “Zero Harm” philosophy at the project site.


Job Description

  • Champion the company’s “Zero Harm” philosophy for health, safety, and environmental (HSE) management at the project site
  • Develop the project-specific construction site HSE Plan in accordance with company templates and tailor plan contents to project-specific details and HSE requirements
  • Help implement the project-specific construction site HSE Plan for company personnel, contractors, and applicable low-tier subcontractors
  • Provide day-to-day supervision of junior-level company HSE specialists and/or oversight of contractor HSE personnel to ensure adequate inspections of field activities
  • Provide periodic oversight of site contractor activities regarding compliance with legal, regulatory, company, and project-specific HSE rules and requirements
  • Act as the company HSE technical lead and advise project site management regarding HSE compliance issues during project construction
  • Interact with and provide technical advice and administrative support for HSE compliance to contractor management personnel
  • Review contractor job hazard analyses and advise on the suitability of hazard elimination and mitigation measures
  • Conduct daily walk-downs of site work activities and advise on corrective actions needed to maintain compliance with HSE rules and requirements
  • Initiate and support weekly joint project management and contractor site walk-downs and HSE review meetings
  • Issue “stop-work” orders in coordination with project site management for activities that pose an immediate threat to the life or health of the workforce or substantial harm to the environment
  • Administer the project site safe work permit program for site work activities under the company’s management oversight, including review and sign-off on permits for confined space entry, hazardous energy control (LOTO), and excavations
  • Lead and/or support contractor HSE staff in responding to and investigating accidents and incidents at the project site
  • Solicit information from contractors and maintain records of HSE accidents and incidents at the project site, including near-miss events
  • Provide monthly project site HSE performance metrics to project site management and the CIAm HSES Manager


Skills Required

  • 5 to 7 years of experience in HSE management and oversight with a focus on construction safety requirements
  • At least 3 years of experience in an HSE supervisory capacity
  • Knowledge of U.S. OSHA standards under 29 CFR 1926 and 1910 and practical application of their requirements in construction/industrial settings
  • 30-hour OSHA training for construction required
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred
  • Ability to work daily in a construction/field setting under a wide variety of environmental and weather extremes, including rain, heat, and cold
  • Ability/willingness to undertake moderate walking and climbing as required to perform duties
  • Ability/willingness to work overtime and weekends as needed to support construction activities

 

Education/Training/Certifications

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • High School Diploma or GED


Additional Requirements

  • Must be able to pass a drug screening and criminal background check
  • OSHA #510 – OSHA Standards for the Construction Industry preferred
  • Valid OSHA #500 – Trainer Course for Construction certificate preferred
  • Valid First Aid and CPR certification through a recognized training provider, such as the American Red Cross

 

Pay Rate/Salary

  • $45.00-$47.55/hr. Compensation will be offered within this posted range based on experience, skills, and market factors
