Entity: Corporate Department: Penn Med Simulation Center Location: Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania Hours: On-Site, M-F, 7am-4:00pm (7am-4pm occasionally 4:30pm and weekends based on the needs of the center) Senior Simulation Operations Specialist Working under moderate supervision, the incumbent will consult with instructors and faculty in the planning and implementation of complex, interprofessional and multidisciplinary simulation-based events, occurring within dedicated simulation training space and in situ space on the clinical unit, in order to advance simulation activities for education, assessment, research and process improvement purposes. Accountabilities Serve as a consultant in the planning and implementation of simulation activities, including the selection of appropriate simulation methodologies based on provided objectives, course planning, delivery, debriefing and documentation. Support simulation activities by anticipating, preparing and providing the appropriate simulator, medical supplies and disposables required based upon provided scenario parameters. Provide technical support during simulated scenarios including operation of digital cameras, video cameras, audio/video mixer, digital/analog converter, web-based session recording software, monitors, LCD projectors as well as other necessary medical equipment. Maintain, troubleshoot and repair computerized manikins (software and hardware), task trainers, virtual reality trainers and related multimedia peripherals. Serve as an operations specialist for simulation-based exercises by programming manikin software, facilitating simulation, pre and debriefing learners. Utilize medical knowledge to model realistic human physiological responses with variable oversight and serve as the "patient" voice". Manage assets and stock items utilizing online inventory management system, advising administrator on equipment/disposables purchases needed to maintain appropriate inventory. Plan, schedule and track courses to ensure that each has appropriately assigned space, simulation technician and other resources as needed. Performs duties in accordance with Penn Medicine and entity values, policies, and procedures. Other duties as assigned to support the unit, department, entity, and health system organization Minimum Requirements Required Education and Experience Associate's Degree is required (Bachelor's Degree Computer Science/IT preferred) 2+ years Advanced computer knowledge is required Knowledge of simulation services, technologies and applications is required 2+ years AHA instruction experience is required 3+ years Clinical medical knowledge in the paramedic, nursing and/or IT field is preferred Licenses, Registrations, and Certifications ACLs, BCLS, PALS is required EMT-P or LPN is preferred Required Skills and Abilities Mastery of basic medical knowledge in order to accurately recreate common clinical scenarios. Knowledge of audio/video equipment and software for recording, duplication, mixing and editing. Knowledge of computer programs, hardware equipment and software applications. Ability to express technical information clearly and simply to non-technical persons. Good communication, organizational and interpersonal skills. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of organizational personnel, staff/faculty and students. Ability to carry out responsibilities in a timely, meticulous and professional manner, demonstrating initiative and creativity. Experience with Knowledge link course building and registration workflow and scheduling. Ability to work well under pressure, set priorities and make critical decisions. Technologically agile, ability to learn new software and hardware quickly and independently. In-Situ simulation experience, with varying degrees of fidelity. Ability to work a flexible schedule that may include evening and weekend assignments. Knowledge of Simulation system equipment (Laerdal, Gaumard, CAE, B-line) Debriefing educational experience - coursework. Self-motivated and requires minimal supervision with the ability to work as a team member. Ability to assess, troubleshoot and fix equipment failures in a timely fashion.
