About the Opportunity
A highly respected California law firm is seeking a Senior Trial & Litigation Attorney to join its litigation practice in Oakland. This role is ideal for an attorney with 7+ years of civil litigation experience who wants meaningful courtroom exposure, complex case responsibility, and the opportunity to represent public agency clients in high‑impact matters.
You will manage sophisticated litigation from inception through trial, collaborate with accomplished attorneys across multiple offices, and develop long‑term expertise in public‑sector litigation, constitutional issues, and eminent domain (highly valued but not required).

Key Responsibilities
- Develop and execute litigation strategies for complex civil matters
- Manage cases from initial evaluation through trial and appeal
- Draft pleadings, dispositive motions, legal memoranda, and appellate‑quality briefs
- Conduct legal research involving constitutional, statutory, and regulatory issues
- Prepare witnesses, experts, and trial exhibits
- Conduct and defend depositions
- Lead discovery strategy and document management
- Represent clients in hearings, mediations, settlement conferences, arbitrations, and trials
- Advocate for public agency clients in state and federal courts
- Collaborate with attorneys across offices
- Maintain strong client relationships
- Contribute to business development and firm growth
Qualifications
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an ABA‑accredited law school
- Active California Bar membership
- Minimum 7 years of civil litigation experience
- Extensive law‑and‑motion practice experience
- Proven trial‑preparation experience (discovery, depositions, witness prep, evidentiary development)
- Exceptional legal writing, analytical, and research skills
- Strong oral advocacy and courtroom presentation abilities
- Ability to independently manage multiple complex matters
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong organizational and project‑management abilities
- Collaborative mindset across multiple office locations
Preferred:
- Experience representing public entities
- Eminent domain or condemnation experience
- Background in land use, municipal law, or public‑agency litigation
- Trial experience in complex civil litigation
- Interest in client development
- Experience mentoring junior attorneys
