Job Summary

A recently launched Innovation Accelerator (under the Grid Research, Innovation, and Deployment group) was created to tackle critical challenges ranging from energy efficiency and grid modernization to renewable energy integration and enhanced customer experiences. Leveraging proven, customer-oriented, startup methodologies, the organization is fostering new products & services that deliver transformative solutions at scale, changing the way it innovates and grows. The Alpha project is seeking an experienced project manager to join the team. Alpha is developing an advanced energy load management device to enable electrification. The project manager will assist the team in meeting its goals through 2027.

This job is the fully qualified, career-oriented, Senior Project Manager position that requires mastery of the journey level Project Manager job duties. Under general direction, exercises judgment and discretion and is responsible for all aspects of the development and implementation of assigned projects and provides a single point of contact for those projects. Project duration is generally multi-year, and requires significant risk management. Assignments will have high visibility, require extensive project management skills and often require specific discipline and areas of expertise.

Key Responsibilities

• Is able to perform the job duties of a journey level Project Manager
• Applies and adapts project management techniques
• Project may not be well defined or require creativity or new approaches
• Obtain commitment on detailed work plans including schedule, cost, resources, contingency and communication plans
• Obtain management approval as needed; ensure project documentation is maintained
• Identify, analyze, and address project performance issues
• Manage the integration of vendor tasks and track and review vendor deliverables
• Communicate project status to all stakeholders
• Assess project risk and develop contingency plans
• Identify and communicate lessons learned and best practices
• Determines that project objectives are achievable
• Budget tracking and reporting
• Project reporting (PlanisWare)
• Budget reporting and compliance (EPIC PMO, etc.)
• Timelines, critical path
• Meeting management (daily operating review, weekly operating review, monthly operating review)
• 1-3-10/Tactical implementation plan/Workstream management
• Superior ability to interface with and across supporting organizations

Required Skills

• Proficiency in project management
• Strong communication skills
• Energy/Utility sector knowledge

Preferred Skills

• Project Management Professional (PMP) certification and maintenance (desired for new entrants)
• Specific experience with a similar electric utility organization
• Electric industry experience

Education Requirements

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or its equivalent in education and experience
• Project Management Professional (PMP) certification desired for new entrants

Required Experience

• 8 years of experience in project management, project controls, engineering, and/or construction (internal hire); 9 years if outside hire
