• Position Type: Contract to Hire
• Contract Duration: 4 months
• Pay Rate: $85.00–$90.00 / Hour (USD)
• Travel Requirements: Approximately 20% of the time traveling to/from project-related functions; travel within California approximately 10%

Job Summary

This position is represented by the Engineers and Scientists of California (ESC) and is subject to collective bargaining. The role is for a journey-level engineer who has mastered Associate Engineer skills and duties, and is responsible for leading the engineering and design of more complex projects. The journey engineer exercises independent judgment in applying engineering principles and works with minimal supervision. Collaboration with engineers, project managers, construction personnel, and other business partners to assess project needs is essential. Additional responsibilities include developing technical studies and reports, providing guidance to contractors and outside vendors, and traveling to/from project-related functions approximately 20% of the time. This hybrid position requires working from a remote office and an assigned work location within the client's Service Territory, based on business needs.

Key Responsibilities

• Resolve problems of moderate scope using standard solutions
• Independently plan work under general direction; progress reviewed periodically for technical accuracy
• Perform functions of Associate level Engineer as needed
• Provide technical expertise, conduct engineering analyses, studies, and develop conceptual designs
• Present findings to internal teams, contractors, and vendors
• Conduct walkdowns and design review meetings
• Prepare technical documents including design criteria, scope documents, specifications, and reports
• Develop, evaluate, and recommend alternative project proposals
• Solicit, prepare, and evaluate contracts/proposals from engineering consultants
• Review consultant contracts for technical compliance
• Interpret and apply applicable codes and regulations
• Participate in developing restoration plans and assist in root cause analysis
• Approve reports, new drawings, and revisions to existing drawings
• Respond promptly to facility failures in emergencies
• Represent the client to government bodies for assigned projects

Education Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an accredited U.S. curriculum or equivalent from outside the U.S.

Required Experience

• 3 years of cumulative experience in engineering and design

Required Skills

• Engineering analyses and conceptual design development
• Preparation of technical documents (design criteria, scope documents, specifications, reports)
• Interpretation and application of applicable codes and regulations
• Contract/proposal solicitation, preparation, and evaluation
• Root cause analysis participation and restoration plan development
• Drawing approval and revision management
• Emergency response readiness for facility failures

Preferred Skills

• Electrical transmission line engineering for 115kV–500kV
• Strong familiarity with GO 95, NESC, and client transmission line standards and construction practices
• Strong familiarity with PLS-CADD, PLS-POLE, and similar software
• Skills in project management

Work Environment / Physical Requirements

• Hybrid position requiring work from a remote office and an assigned work location within the client's Service Territory, based on business needs
• Travel to/from project-related functions approximately 20% of the time; travel within California approximately 10%
• Laptop and phone will be provided by the client; all other tools/equipment including ergonomic tools must be provided by the vendor
• PPE will be provided by the vendor
• Position is subject to collective bargaining under the Engineers and Scientists of California (ESC) union; will fall under ESC union if converted to FTE
