POSITION OVERVIEW
As a Senior Project Engineer your roles and responsibilities will include:
The Senior Project Engineer will lead the technical and commercial execution of large, complex capital investment projects, typically ranging from $1M to $20M. The role will manage projects from initial scope development and estimating through procurement, construction, commissioning, and final completion.
The engineer will work closely with plant managers, business leaders, engineering teams, procurement, contractors, and external engineering firms to ensure projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and according to specifications.
Key Responsibilities
Project Leadership & Execution
- Lead large and complex capital projects from planning through completion.
- Manage project scope, budgets, schedules, deliverables, and forecasts.
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Ensure projects are completed safely, on time, and within budget.
- Lead cross-functional project teams and provide project updates to leadership.
Engineering & Design
- Develop project scopes, specifications, schedules, and investment-grade cost estimates.
- Perform or oversee mechanical and/or electrical engineering.
- Review designs for safety, quality, functionality, and cost.
- Apply lean manufacturing principles.
- Design and implement improvements related to automation, processes, equipment, and packaging.
Procurement & Contractor Management
- Develop technical specifications and contracts.
- Prepare bid packages and evaluate supplier proposals.
- Select and manage equipment suppliers, contractors, subcontractors, and engineering firms.
- Lead contractors during onsite construction and execution.
- Manage vendor performance and project-related changes.
Stakeholder Management
- Partner with plant managers, business leaders, maintenance, production, engineering, and procurement.
- Lead multidisciplinary project teams.
- Communicate project status, risks, issues, options, and recommendations to project leadership.
- Work effectively with both internal and external stakeholders.
Project Controls & Compliance
- Ensure projects comply with technical specifications, contracts, safety requirements, and company standards.
- Develop acceptance criteria and coordinate project validation and signoff.
- Maintain project documentation.
- Promote a zero-incident safety culture.
Continuous Improvement
- Identify opportunities for automation, process improvement, and packaging improvements.
- Support production and maintenance teams with equipment and process issues.
- Train maintenance and operations personnel on new equipment and processes.
QUALIFICATIONS
Most importantly, you need to be a passionate Senior Project Engineer who enjoys his work and is considered to be one of the best within your organization. The ideal Senior Project Engineer would be someone with deep experience in many (if not all) of the following:
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, or related Engineering.
- 5+ years of engineering experience in industrial or manufacturing environments.
- Demonstrated experience managing capital projects, preferably up to $20M.
- Strong project management and leadership skills.
- Experience managing contractors and subcontractors.
- Experience with bidding, estimating, scheduling, procurement, and project deliverables.
- Experience negotiating and managing project changes.
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
- Ability to lead project teams and provide direction to team members.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- Experience with MS Project or Primavera.
- Ability to travel 50 75%.
Preferred
- SAP experience.
- Experience with manufacturing processes, material handling, utilities, abatement systems, electrical controls, automation, or industrial equipment.
- Experience with lean manufacturing.
- Experience with stage-gate capital project processes.

Minimum Education: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, or related Engineering.
Minimum Experience: 5+ years of engineering experience in industrial or manufacturing environments.
