    Position Specific Description

    The Senior Project Manager - Central Maintenance Projects is responsible for leading and managing capital and maintenance projects across FPLs fossil generating fleet from inception through closeout. This role serves as the primary project owner, ensuring safe execution, budget adherence, schedule performance, and regulatory compliance across all project phases.

    Reporting Structure

    Reports to the PGD Central Maintenance Manager. Works in close collaboration with Plant Operations, Engineering, Procurement (ISC), Environmental, Regulatory, Finance, and EPC/contractor teams.

    Key Responsibilities

    Project Development

    • Identify and initiate projects through site requirements, corporate/fleet initiatives, or service requests
    • Lead scope development, classification, and study phase determination
    • Develop preliminary budgets, schedules, and risk assessments
    • Prepare and present business cases using NPV, CPVRR, and payback analyses
    • Obtain funding approval and establish WBS, including retirement unit considerations
    • Configure Maximo Work Orders (with MOC checklist), NextProject and Horizon tools setup

    Engineering & Design

    • Form and lead cross-functional project teams
    • Select project delivery strategy (EPC / Procure-Construct / Construct-Only)
    • Oversee engineering package development and design review cycles
    • Manage permitting processes and approval gates
    • Ensure WBS alignment and tool integration throughout

    Procurement

    • Lead ISC procurement process including PO classification decisions (Competitive Bid, Single/Sole Source, PDS)
    • Develop ISN bidders lists and manage bid evaluation (technical and commercial)
    • Lead contract negotiations and execute Purchase Orders
    • Ensure procurement activities align with project schedule and budget

    Execution

    • Own overall project budget, schedule, and performance during construction
    • Coordinate permitting, contractor mobilization, and field execution activities
    • Maintain reporting cadence and stakeholder communication
    • Drive acceptance testing and turnover to operations

    Closeout

    • Complete all closeout documentation, financial reconciliation, and lessons learned
    • Manage final PO closure, Maximo updates, and archive filing
    • Ensure all safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements are fulfilled

    Preferred Qualifications

    • B.S. in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, or related discipline)
    • 10+ years of project management experience in power generation, heavy industrial, or utility environments
    • Demonstrated experience managing projects from $1M to $50M+
    • Proficiency with Maximo, Horizon, NextProject, and standard project controls tools
    • Strong knowledge of EPC contracting, ISC procurement processes, and capital project delivery
    • Working knowledge of NERC, OSHA, and environmental compliance requirements applicable to fossil generating facilities
    • M.S. in Engineering or M.B.A.
    • PMP certification or equivalent
    • Experience with gas turbine, combined cycle, or fossil plant maintenance and capital projects
    • Familiarity with CPVRR, NPV, and utility financial modeling methodologies
    • Experience with no reportable safety events track record in large construction environments

    Job Overview

    Employees in this job are accountable for providing safe, reliable, and cost-effective implementation of assigned and approved capital projects. The position is responsible for establishing a single point of ownership and accountability for non-major maintenance capital projects within FPL or NextEra. Individuals in this role devise standardized PM processes and controls for reporting and contracting practices throughout that ensure compliance with corporate guidelines and terms and conditions that provide a reasonable rate of return, address governmental compliance, cure personnel and property risk issues, and impart high quality and schedule adherence.
