Make a City-Wide Impact
We're partnering with one of the largest municipal transportation organizations in the Southwest to identify a
Senior Network Engineer who will play a critical role in supporting and modernizing a large-scale operational technology network that powers critical public infrastructure.
This is a highly visible opportunity for a hands-on network engineer who enjoys solving complex connectivity challenges, working in the field, and helping shape the future design of a mission-critical network environment spanning more than 1,300 connected locations across a major metropolitan region.
The organization is seeking a technical leader first and foremost. While formal people management is not initially required, the right individual will have the opportunity to mentor team members, influence strategy, and potentially grow into a permanent leadership position.
What You'll Do
- Support and maintain a large-scale network infrastructure supporting operational technology systems, surveillance devices, and field communications equipment
- Troubleshoot complex Layer 2 and Layer 3 networking issues across wired and wireless environments
- Manage network segmentation, VLANs, routing, switching, and connectivity across distributed locations
- Participate in ongoing network modernization and future-state architecture initiatives
- Work closely with engineering teams, external vendors, and stakeholders on infrastructure improvement projects
- Review and contribute to network design documentation, diagrams, and technical standards
- Evaluate vendor recommendations and provide technical guidance during future network redesign efforts
- Mentor junior technical staff and serve as a trusted technical resource for the team
- Present technical updates and recommendations to leadership and executive stakeholders in an easy-to-understand format
- Perform both office-based and field-based troubleshooting activities throughout the metro area
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of hands-on network engineering experience
- Strong expertise in:
- Layer 2 and Layer 3 networking
- Routing and switching
- VLAN design and implementation
- Network segmentation
- Troubleshooting complex network environments
- Experience supporting both wired and wireless network infrastructures
- Ability to create and maintain network diagrams and technical documentation
- Strong communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel locally throughout the region for field support activities
- Must be authorized to work in the United States without current or future sponsorship requirements
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Juniper networking technologies
- Experience with Ruggedcom or other industrial networking equipment
- Cisco networking experience
- Wireless mesh networking experience
- Wi-Fi design, deployment, and troubleshooting experience
- Experience evaluating vendor proposals and participating in infrastructure planning initiatives
- Familiarity with operational technology (OT), intelligent transportation systems (ITS), surveillance networks, or other critical infrastructure environments
What We're Looking For
The ideal candidate is a
true hands-on engineer who enjoys getting into the details of network operations and architecture. This is not a position for someone who has moved away from technology and into pure management.
We're seeking an individual who can:
- Troubleshoot complex issues independently
- Think strategically about future network architecture
- Communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Lead through influence rather than formal authority
- Thrive in both office and field environments
Why This Opportunity?
- Support one of the largest public infrastructure networks in the region
- Direct influence on an upcoming large-scale network modernization initiative
- Mix of operational support and strategic architecture work
- Opportunity to work with wireless, fiber, and industrial networking technologies
- High visibility with leadership and decision-makers
- Clear path toward future leadership opportunities for the right individual
- Meaningful work that directly impacts the daily lives of thousands of residents and commuters
If you're a senior network engineer looking for a role where your technical expertise will have a measurable impact on critical city-scale infrastructure, we'd love to hear from you.
