Senior Mechanical Designer | Scottsdale, AZ

IMEG is hiring a Senior Mechanical Designer in Scottsdale, Arizona, to lead design efforts as a project manager or lead designer on moderate to complex projects. In this role, you will work closely with engineers and consultants to provide project direction, engineering solutions, and client guidance while supporting the analysis, design, and implementation oversight of mechanical systems for the vertical building industry. You'll also work within project budgets, assist with training and mentoring efforts, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to meet project goals and client expectations.

Principal Responsibilities

  • Lead design efforts for the analysis of HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems
  • Utilize engineering software and tools to create detailed designs, specifications, and calculations according to code requirements and IMEG standards
  • Perform site assessments and generate detailed analysis and technical reports
  • Interact with clients to understand project needs, gather requirements, and communicate technical information effectively while building and maintaining client relationships
  • Provide in-process design reviews of HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection system design, calculations, specifications, and project correspondence
  • Implement IMEG quality control processes to ensure designs and solutions meet IMEG quality standards, industry standards, and client requirements
  • Provide technical training, mentoring, and assistance in resolving field issues with limited support from senior staff
  • Stay up to date with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in mechanical engineering, and contribute to research, development, and innovation efforts within IMEG
  • Prioritize safety in all aspects of engineering work and identify and mitigate potential safety risks associated with mechanical systems
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including other engineers, architects, and project managers, to deliver integrated solutions that meet project goals
  • Participate in project interviews and presentations and perform other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent required
  • 7 years of experience minimum required, 8 preferred, in the building design consulting industry OR
  • Associates degree, or certificate, in Building Information Modeling (BIM) or Engineering preferred
  • 11 years of experience minimum required, 12 preferred, in the building design consulting or construction industry
  • Advanced proficiency in design techniques, tools, and concepts involved in the production of technical plans and specifications
  • Advanced proficiency in technical and analytical skills including proficiency of principles in thermodynamics, psychrometrics, heat transfer and fluid mechanics relating to mechanical design in HVAC, plumbing and fire protection systems
  • Strong training, mentoring and leadership skills
  • Ability to perform final quality control check in their area of expertise
  • Ability to sell work and develop client relationships
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
  • Attention to detail and problem-solving skills
  • Eagerness to adapt to new challenges
  • Proficient with MS Office Suite including but not limited to Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Ability to clearly communicate in both oral and written communication to individuals or groups
  • Ability to travel up to 20% with occasional overnight stays
