Description

Title: Senior Manufacturing Technician
Location: Draper, UT 84020 (Onsite)
Duration: 12-month contract-to-hire 
Summary:
  • The main function of a technician is to set up and execute feasibility studies, experiments, and tests - both creating and following established protocols - to develop findings for the validation and improvement of equipment and manufacturing processes/methods based on engineering principles; analyze results, make recommendations, and develop reports for Engineering review. Operate a variety of test equipment to assess characteristics of the manufacturing environment.
  • This is a maintain-and-repair focused role, not a process engineering or continuous improvement position. The ideal candidate will be a hands-on technician who can personally diagnose and act at the equipment level.
  • We are seeking a Senior Manufacturing Support Engineering Technician to provide hands-on maintenance, repair, and recovery of manufacturing equipment in a medical device production environment. This is a contract position created to support weekend production line expansion, with strong potential for conversion to full-time employment based on performance.
Responsibilities:
  • Consult with Engineers, Technicians, and Assemblers on processes to execute experiments and/or production runs. Support related to equipment investigations, testing, objective evidence of product dispositions and rework support work necessary.
  • Review documentation and take appropriate actions to ensure that information is appropriately catalogued and follow through to validation and qualification of equipment, including transferring information to appropriate locations, e.g., ECRs, SOPs, drawings, and tooling, for Engineering approval.
  • Utilize manufacturing software (e.g., JDE, QMS, PLM) to update documentation in systems.
  • Follow through with development of training and documentation materials, based on collaboration with Engineering, including identifying opportunities for modification and making recommendations, enabling the seamless knowledge transfer of project and manufacturing processes; applying knowledge of processes to devise process changes in collaboration with Engineering.
  • May lead projects related to new equipment validation, equipment investigations, testing, objective evidence of product dispositions and rework.
  • Identify potential improvement opportunities and propose solutions to optimize process and/or equipment, e.g., re-design/design of basic equipment, tools, fixtures, etc. to improve manufacturing processes, for Engineering review.
  • Provide coaching and guidance to technicians.
  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on manufacturing equipment
  • Troubleshoot equipment issues directly at the tool and take corrective action
  • Support equipment recovery and testing after maintenance activities
  • Update SOPs, CNs, and required documentation for equipment maintenance and recovery
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records and documentation
  • Ensure compliance with safety protocols and regulated documentation requirements
Additional Skills:
  • Excellent computer skills required, including experience with MS Office Suite; ERP/MRP systems experience preferred
  • Ability to read, comprehend, write and speak English, and good communication skills required
  • Knowledge of and adherence to Edwards Environmental Health and Safety and Quality guidelines as they relate to department clean room medical device manufacturing
  • Knowledge of Good Manufacturing and Good Documentation Practices supporting a medical device environment
  • Strict attention to detail
  • Ability to provide feedback in a professional, direct, and tactful manner
  • Must be able to work in a team environment and with minimum supervision
  • Proven success adhering to project schedules and managing small projects
  • Substantial knowledge of validation and improvement of automated equipment
  • Ability to troubleshoot manufacturing equipment
  • Knowledge of material compatibility in the proposed use environment
Equipment & Technical Environment:
The technician will support maintenance-intensive equipment including:
  • Laser cutting systems for metal device components
  • Vacuum furnaces
  • Chemical polishing/electropolishing equipment
  • Salt bath heat treatment systems (operating at ~500°C)
  • Oxide hoods and support equipment
  • Machining tools including Bumotec machines and micromachining equipment
  • Metrology equipment (microscopes, scanning equipment) - smaller portion of work
  • Equipment involves multiple technical domains: mechanical systems, electrical systems and AC power, pneumatics, robotics, controls and instrumentation, and chemistry-related process equipment.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Medical device manufacturing background
  • Experience with maintenance and repair in regulated environments
  • Two-year degree in a hands-on technical field
  • Military technical training and experience
  • Background in maintenance technician, equipment technician, or process technician roles with clear equipment-maintenance focus
  • Experience from manufacturing, automotive, or industrial maintenance settings
Technical Skills:
  • Strong mechanical aptitude
  • Electrical and AC power knowledge
  • Basic pneumatics
  • Robotics familiarity
  • Controls and instrumentation experience
  • Solid safety background
  • Documentation: Comfort with maintenance-related documentation, SOPs, CNs, and controlled updates
  • Validation: IQ/OQ or validation experience for post-maintenance testing preferred
Required Experience:
  • 2-4 years in hands-on equipment maintenance roles
Education:
  • H.S. Diploma or equivalent
Tools & Software:
  • IBM Maximo for asset management, PMs, and repair events
  • Windchill for SOP updates
  • Microsoft Excel
Work Environment:
  • Non-cleanroom manufacturing environment
  • Hands-on, equipment-focused work
  • Direct troubleshooting and repair at the tool level
  • Collaboration with engineering teams but independent execution of maintenance tasks

  • Hands-on mechanical assessment

Additional Information:
  • Contract Duration: Short-term with intent to convert
  • Conversion Opportunity: Strong performance may lead to full-time employment; headcount planned for next year
  • Role Scope: This position is focused on equipment maintenance and repair. Continuous improvement projects, equipment upgrades, and engineering-led optimization efforts are not in scope.
