The Opportunity

The Economy Directorate leads programmes and initiatives that support business growth, inward investment, regeneration, innovation and skills development across York and North Yorkshire.

 

As Senior Lawyer - Economy, you will be the lead legal adviser on a diverse portfolio of economic development activity and investment programmes. You will work closely with senior leaders and partners to ensure that major projects and funding initiatives are delivered successfully and within an effective legal framework.

 

Key Responsibilities

 ·       Lead legal support for economic development, regeneration and investment projects.

  •        Advise on grant funding arrangements, subsidy control and commercial contracts.
  •        Support the delivery of business support and inward investment programmes.
  •        Provide legal advice on governance, risk management and decision-making.
  •        Negotiate and draft complex contractual and partnership arrangements.
  •        Advise senior officers and elected members on high-profile strategic matters.
  •        Support organisational priorities while ensuring legal compliance and best practice.

 

About You

 

You will be a qualified Solicitor, Barrister or Chartered Legal Executive with significant experience of advising on complex legal matters.

 

You will also bring:

  •        Strong expertise in commercial contracts and public sector legal practice.
  •        Experience of funding agreements, procurement and subsidy control.
  •        Excellent stakeholder engagement and influencing skills.
  •        Strategic thinking combined with practical problem-solving ability.
  •        Experience of supporting significant programmes, projects or investments.
  •        The ability to provide clear, concise and commercially focused legal advice.

 

This role is ideal for a lawyer who is motivated by supporting economic growth, investment and innovation while helping to shape the future prosperity of the region.
