Job Description The Senior Data Developer, Back Office Data & Reporting owns the design, integrity, and operational reliability of systems that power financial reporting and operations at Stride, Inc.
This role is responsible for building and operating transparent, audit-ready data services that reconcile system differences, encode business rules, and ensure financial outputs are consistent, explainable, and defensible across Finance, Legal, and Audit stakeholders.
The Senior Data Developer serves as the technical owner of back-office data pipelines and integrations. This includes resolving ambiguity across upstream systems, translating contractual and operational requirements into data logic, and establishing scalable patterns for repeatable, SOC-aligned reporting. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential duties.
Design and maintain dbt-based transformation layers and Snowflake data models that serve as the canonical source for financial and operational reporting
Build and operate data pipelines and integrations that resolve discrepancies across systems and establish a single, explainable source of truth
Translate operational processes and contract language into explicit, testable data logic and rules
Establish transparent reporting layers that allow Finance and Operations to trace how outputs are generated without reliance on manual validation
Implement automated data quality frameworks, including reconciliation logic, exception handling, and audit trails
Lead the development of audit-ready datasets and reporting structures aligned with financial and compliance requirements (e.g., SOC 1, SOX-aligned practices)
Partner with Finance, Legal, Audit, and Operations to define requirements and ensure outputs meet business and regulatory expectations
Own the resolution of system conflicts and data inconsistencies, including defining adjudication logic and escalation paths
Provide hands-on technical leadership to a small team, setting priorities, reviewing work, and establishing engineering standards
Establish documentation, versioning, and governance practices to ensure systems are maintainable, reproducible, and not single-threaded
Monitor and support critical reporting cycles, ensuring reliability under operational deadlines
Supervisory Responsibilities: This position has no formal supervisory responsibilities.
Certificates and Licenses: None required.
MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Engineering, or a related field.
Five (5) to eight (8) years of experience in data engineering, engineering analytics, or a similar role.
Advanced proficiency in SQL, with demonstrated experience building and optimizing queries for large datasets.
Hands-on experience designing and maintaining data pipelines, ETL/ELT processes, and data integrations.
Experience with cloud-based data platforms such as AWS, Google Cloud, or Azure.
Hands-on experience with Snowflake and dbt (or similar transformation frameworks).
Experience working with financial, billing, or operational data systems. Especially desired, experience designing systems where financial outputs must be explainable at the individual transaction level.
Demonstrated ability to own and deliver end-to-end data systems, including ambiguous or poorly defined problem spaces.
Experience translating business processes into structured data models and logic.
Proficiency in Python (or similar) for automation, pipeline development, or data processing
Demonstrated ability to lead technical work while guiding others
Strong systems thinking and ability to reason about data across multiple interconnected platforms.
Ability to identify and resolve ambiguity in upstream data and business logic.
High attention to detail, particularly in financially sensitive contexts.
Ability to communicate complex data logic clearly to non-technical stakeholders.
Comfortable operating in environments with evolving requirements and incomplete information.
Ability to clear required background check.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience working cross-functionally with Finance, Legal, or Audit stakeholders
Familiarity with data governance and compliance standards (SOX, GDPR, etc.).
Experience building reconciliation frameworks and exception-based processing systems.
Experience supporting or building systems that integrate across multiple source platforms (ex, ERP, CRM, SIS)
