Senior Counsel, Compliance & Data Privacy

LHH is partnering with a global energy services organization to identify a Senior Counsel, Compliance & Data Privacy. This is a newly created role offering the opportunity to build and shape a global compliance function in a high-impact, highly visible position.

Position Overview
This role will report directly to the General Counsel and will be responsible for developing and leading key components of the company's global compliance and data privacy programs. The position is highly cross-functional and will partner closely with business leaders, IT, cybersecurity, audit, and international teams.
This is a build position, not a maintenance role. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to assess current practices, identify gaps, and implement scalable compliance frameworks across a global organization.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and manage the company's global compliance program, with a focus on sanctions, export controls, and regulatory compliance
Advise leadership on evolving legal and regulatory requirements and associated business risks
Oversee and enhance data privacy initiatives, including data protection, cross-border data transfer considerations, and incident response
Conduct and manage internal investigations related to compliance and ethics matters
Design and implement policies, procedures, and internal controls to support compliance objectives
Partner with cross-functional stakeholders to integrate compliance into business operations
Support training initiatives and promote a strong culture of compliance across the organization
Candidate Profile
J.D. from an accredited law school and active bar membership
7+ years of legal experience in a corporation or law firm
Demonstrated experience in compliance, sanctions, export controls, and/or regulatory risk management
Exposure to global operations and cross-border regulatory frameworks preferred
Ability to operate independently in a lean environment and take ownership of building processes from the ground up

Work Environment
Houston-based role (Northwest Houston)
Primarily on-site environment with flexibility for professional scheduling needs
