Description
The Senior Business Data Analyst will lead the Business Intelligence (BI) and reporting workstream for the enterprise Dynamics 365 Core Financials implementation project ('Project Elevate'). This role acts as a bridge between Business Technology and Finance/Operational stakeholders, utilizing Analytics Engineering, Microsoft Fabric, and Power BI expertise to design, model, and deliver net-new financial reporting and rebuild mission-critical legacy reports (e.g., Viewpoint). This role will sit onsite. RESPONSIBILITIES / ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Discovery & Requirements Gathering: Lead discovery sessions with Finance and operational stakeholders to inventory current-state reporting needs, define net-new Dynamics 365 requirements, and assess legacy Viewpoint reports requiring rebuilds or rearchitecting.
Analytics Engineering & Data Transformations: Collaborate with Engineering to define Fabric Link configurations and Bronze/Silver/Gold layer data transformations in Microsoft Fabric. Leverage modern transformation tools (e.g., dbt, Coalesce) or Fabric-native pipelines to build modular, testable, and version-controlled data models.
Legacy Data Stitching: Define, document, and validate the Viewpoint history stitch strategy—establishing cutover boundaries and mapping legacy financial data structures to Dynamics so historical transactions display seamlessly in Power BI without data gaps.
Power BI Report Development: Build net-new Power BI reports and rebuild complex, high-value legacy reports using advanced DAX and data modeling, while maintaining strict adherence to internal Fabric governance standards and workspace architecture. Coordinate closely with the BI Project Lead and broader BI team during development.
UAT, Validation & Go-Live Readiness: Drive User Acceptance Testing (UAT) with Finance partners to validate report outputs against legacy benchmarks, resolve underlying data issues with Engineering, finalize documentation, and execute seamless knowledge transfer to the BI team.
TIME ALLOCATION
Power BI Development & Legacy Rebuilds: 35%
Data Modeling & Integration Design (Fabric, Lakehouse, Modern Transformations): 30%
Stakeholder Discovery, Requirements & Business Alignment: 20%
UAT, Validation, & Documentation: 15%
SUCCESS FACTORS
Seamless execution of the BI workstream across all phases of the project lifecycle.
Accurate reconciliation and history-stitching between legacy Viewpoint and new Dynamics data models.
High stakeholder adoption of net-new and rebuilt Power BI dashboards.
Creation of scalable, governed, and well-tested Fabric data models built to modern analytics engineering standards.
KEY RELATIONSHIPS
Collaborates with: BI Project Lead, Core Project Team, Data/BI Engineering, Finance, Accounting, Operational Stakeholders, and Project Managers
REQUIRED EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES
Bachelor's Degree in Business Analytics, Data Analytics, Information Systems, Finance, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
5+ years of progressive experience in senior business data analytics or analytics engineering roles.
Microsoft Fabric Expertise: Hands-on experience working with Fabric Lakehouse architectures (Bronze/Silver/Gold layers), Dataverse/Fabric Link, and dimensional modeling.
ERP Data Modeling: Proven experience modeling data and writing complex Power BI reports for ERP implementations, preferably Microsoft Dynamics 365 Core Financials.
Legacy Data Migration: Demonstrated experience handling historical data 'stitching' or migration from legacy ERPs (e.g., Viewpoint) to modern data platforms.
Advanced Power BI: Deep expertise in complex DAX, Power Query, report performance optimization, and governance standards.
Strong SQL skills for data validation, reconciliations, and troubleshooting source-to-target data flows.
MASSIVE BONUS — dbt Experience: Direct experience using dbt (data build tool) or modern data transformation frameworks (e.g., SQLMesh, Coalesce) to manage, test, and document analytics engineering pipelines.
