Senior Accountant

Our client, a Public Procurement and Government Contracting company, is looking for a Senior Accountant for their Fairfax, VA location.

Responsibilities:

• The Accountant will support the Land Development Services Finance Branch in managing complex revenue operations, financial reconciliations, budget development, and procurement preparation.
• This role requires a seasoned accounting professional with strong analytical capabilities and experience in government or large organizational financial processes.
• The Accountant will serve as a key resource for revenue analysis, financial reporting, fee schedule review, deposit account reconciliation, and internal controls evaluation. They will also assist with budget preparation, performance management activities, and procurement-related financial review.
• Conduct detailed revenue analysis and develop short- and long-term revenue projections.
• Reconciliation of escrow deposit accounts, cash receipts, and receivable accounts between systems.
• Recommend improvements to internal controls, procedures, and workflows.
• Assist in preparing financial reports for the different stakeholders
• Research, analyze, and prepare financial documentation related to revenue management, fee schedules, and account classifications.
• Assist in the preparation of annual revenue budget submissions and quarterly revenue reviews.
• Support billing and accounts receivable functions, including customer refunds and deposit processing.
• Collaborate with senior managers on budget development and performance indicator tracking for the agency.
• Assist staff with procurement preparation, including scopes of work, specifications, and timelines for purchase orders.

Requirements:

• Strong ability to gather, analyze, and interpret financial data for reporting to internal and external stakeholders.
• Ability to interpret automated financial reports, financial policies, and procedures.
• Demonstrated experience analyzing revenue trends and developing financial projections.
• Experience performing complex financial reconciliations and ensuring accuracy across multiple accounting systems.
• Knowledge of internal control best practices and ability to identify weaknesses and recommend corrective actions.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and maintain accuracy in a fast-paced environment.
• Proficiency in enterprise financial systems (SAP, and or similar platforms preferred).
• Strong organizational skills, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities.
• Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and management.
• Experience in governmental accounting, land development, or similar regulatory financial environments.
• Skilled in preparing detailed, accurate written reports and delivering clear oral presentations.
• Advanced Excel skills and the ability to work with large datasets.
• Experience supporting procurement processes and budget development activities.
• 5-7 years of progressively responsible accounting or financial analysis experience.
• 7-10 years of experience in governmental, public sector, or regulatory finance environments.
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a closely related field.
• Master's degree in Accounting, Finance, Public Administration, or a related field.
• CPA or CPA eligible status (preferred but not required).
