    Knife River is seeking a driven and customer-focused Sales Representative to support our operations in the Boise market. In this role, you will build strong relationships, grow your local territory, and drive sales of ready-mix concrete, aggregates, and asphalt products. This position plays a key role in delivering high-quality solutions to construction partners while supporting profitable growth within the local market.

    Job Summary

    The Sales Representative is responsible for developing and maintaining customer relationships within the Boise area, identifying new business opportunities, and managing projects from bid through completion. This role focuses on maximizing sales volume and profitability while ensuring exceptional customer satisfaction in the local market.

    Key Responsibilities

    Sales & Business Development

    • Build and maintain relationships with contractors, subcontractors, developers, municipalities, government agencies, and supply houses within the Boise market
    • Prospect new business opportunities and expand market share in the local territory
    • Make direct calls on customers and assist with service, pricing, order placement, and product recommendations
    • Promote company products and services to increase sales and strengthen market presence
    • Monitor local construction activity, market trends, and competitor landscape

    Estimating, Bidding & Project Management

    • Prepare accurate quotes, bids, and project estimates using company pricing tools and software
    • Review project plans and specifications to determine scope and material requirements
    • Coordinate with operations, dispatch, and quality control teams to select appropriate materials and mix designs
    • Manage projects from bid award through completion, ensuring timelines, quality, and customer expectations are met
    • Facilitate pre-construction, construction, and post-construction meetings as needed

    Customer Service & Relationship Management

    • Serve as a trusted advisor by recommending the best products and solutions for each project
    • Maintain consistent communication to ensure high levels of customer satisfaction
    • Monitor product quality during delivery and placement
    • Address customer concerns related to billing, delivery, credit, or product performance
    • Assist with collections efforts as needed

    Operations & Administrative Duties

    • Utilize CRM systems and sales tools to track customer activity, quotes, and reporting
    • Learn and implement new software programs for quoting and reporting purposes
    • Deliver material samples to customers or project stakeholders when required
    • Maintain accurate documentation of bids, projects, and customer interactions
    • Communicate effectively with internal teams including operations, dispatch, quality control, accounting and management

    Safety & Professional Development

    • Promote and uphold Knife River's strong safety culture
    • Identify and address unsafe behaviors or conditions
    • Attend training sessions, trade shows, and seminars to build product knowledge
    • Stay informed on construction industry developments in the local market

    Work Environment

    • Combination of office work, field sales, and jobsite visits primarily within the [City] area
    • Fast-paced, team-oriented environment with a strong emphasis on safety
    • Occasional overnight travel may be required

    Qualifications

    Required

    • High School diploma or GED
    • Strong customer service and communication skills (verbal and written)
    • Intermediate computer skills (Microsoft Office and sales/quoting tools)
    • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines

    Preferred

    • 3-5+ years of sales experience (construction materials or related industry preferred)
    • Experience with ready-mix concrete, aggregates, or asphalt products
    • Ability to read and interpret construction plans and specifications (or willingness to learn)
    • Experience with CRM platforms
    • Technical or solution-based sales experience
