Job Title: Sales Manager – New York Metro Region

Reports To

Vice President of Sales

Position Summary

The Sales Manager is responsible for driving sales growth, profitability, and market expansion throughout the New York City Metro region. This position leads all regional sales activities, develops strategic sales initiatives, manages key customer relationships, and oversees two Regional Sales Managers and their respective sales teams.

The Sales Manager will be responsible for achieving revenue and gross profit objectives, expanding existing customer business, acquiring new accounts, and ensuring exceptional customer service while maintaining alignment with company goals and objectives.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Sales Leadership

  • Directly supervise and provide leadership to two Regional Sales Managers.
  • Establish sales goals, performance expectations, and accountability measures for regional sales teams.
  • Coach, mentor, and develop Regional Sales Managers and sales representatives to maximize performance and professional growth.
  • Conduct regular sales meetings, performance reviews, and field visits.
  • Foster a culture focused on customer satisfaction, accountability, teamwork, and results.

Strategic Planning and Business Development

  • Develop and implement short- and long-term sales strategies to increase revenue, profitability, and market share.
  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities within the foodservice, retail, wholesale, and distribution channels.
  • Expand sales penetration within existing accounts while targeting and securing new accounts.
  • Analyze market trends, competitive activity, customer needs, and industry developments to identify growth opportunities.
  • Develop territory plans and sales initiatives that align with company objectives.

Customer and Account Management

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key customers, distributors, brokers, and strategic partners.
  • Visit customer locations regularly to strengthen relationships and promote company products.
  • Address customer concerns and resolve issues in a timely and professional manner.
  • Negotiate pricing, contracts, promotional programs, and service agreements.
  • Ensure high levels of customer satisfaction and retention.

Sales Forecasting and Budget Management

  • Assist in the development and management of annual sales budgets.
  • Monitor sales expenses and ensure expenditures remain within approved guidelines.
  • Prepare accurate sales forecasts to support inventory planning, purchasing, and operational requirements.
  • Track sales performance and implement corrective actions when goals are not being achieved.
  • Analyze sales reports and key performance indicators to drive business decisions.

Marketing and Promotional Activities

  • Collaborate with Marketing and Category Management teams to develop promotional strategies and sales campaigns.
  • Assist in selecting monthly promotional items and sales incentives.
  • Negotiate customer participation in company-sponsored promotions and programs.
  • Evaluate promotional effectiveness and recommend improvements to increase sales volume and profitability.

Industry Representation

  • Prepare for and attend trade shows, distributor meetings, industry conferences, and customer events.
  • Represent the company professionally within the food distribution industry.
  • Maintain awareness of industry trends, customer preferences, and competitive activities.

Administrative Responsibilities

  • Maintain accurate customer records, forecasts, pricing agreements, and sales activity reports.
  • Utilize CRM and sales management tools to track opportunities and performance.
  • Ensure all customer requests and commitments are documented accurately and processed efficiently.
  • Complete additional projects and duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required

  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive sales experience, including at least 2 years in a leadership or management role.
  • Proven B2B sales experience within food distribution, foodservice, wholesale distribution, grocery, or consumer packaged goods (CPG) industries.
  • Demonstrated success in growing sales revenue and managing key customer relationships.
  • Experience leading, coaching, and developing sales teams.
  • Strong administrative, organizational, and record-keeping skills.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and negotiation abilities.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and CRM systems.
  • Ability to travel throughout the New York Metro region.

Preferred

  • Experience overseeing multiple territories or Regional Sales Managers.
  • Knowledge of food distribution operations, product categories, and supply chain processes.
  • Experience with sales forecasting, budgeting, and strategic planning.
  • Established relationships within foodservice, retail, or distribution channels.
