Job Description

The Safety Manager - Commercial Utility Sitework - Reston, VA will be responsible for:

  • Lead all company Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) initiatives across multiple active job sites.
  • Manage and maintain the organization's EHS management systems, certifications, and compliance programs.
  • Oversee OSHA reporting requirements including OSHA 300 Logs and compliance documentation.
  • Conduct routine jobsite inspections, audits, and safety assessments.
  • Lead Toolbox Talks, Safety Stand Downs, superintendent meetings, and operational safety discussions.
  • Manage incident investigations from initial response through root cause analysis and corrective actions.
  • Develop and maintain project safety documentation including:
    • Activity Hazard Analyses (AHA)
    • Job Hazard Analyses (JHA)
    • Exposure Control Plans
    • Competent Person Letters
    • Task-Specific Checklists
    • Project Safety Questionnaires
  • Administer safety training, onboarding programs, and driver compliance initiatives.
  • Oversee FMCSA, DOT, and Clearinghouse compliance requirements.
  • Monitor and improve company safety performance metrics, including EMR/MOD ratings.
  • Review and verify equipment safety compliance and inspection records.
  • Participate in bid reviews, prequalification meetings, insurance renewals, and client-facing safety discussions.
  • Provide leadership reporting on safety trends, compliance metrics, and risk mitigation strategies.
  • Build and scale the safety team as the company continues to grow.
  • Travel to multiple construction sites throughout the DMV region each week.

The Successful Applicant

A successful Safety Manager - Commercial Utility Sitework - Reston, VA should have:

  • Attention to detail and proactive problem-solving abilities.
  • 3+ years of Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) management experience.
  • 3+ years of civil construction experience.
  • Strong knowledge of excavation, trenching, and underground utility construction safety practices.
  • Experience conducting site safety inspections, audits, and compliance reviews.
  • OSHA 30 Certification required.
  • Experience maintaining OSHA 300 Logs and managing OSHA compliance requirements.
  • Proven experience conducting incident investigations and root cause analyses.
  • Strong understanding of DOT, FMCSA, and driver safety compliance programs.
  • Strong communication and training delivery skills.
  • Ability to work independently across multiple active jobsites.
  • Experience utilizing Microsoft Office and EHS management systems.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish skills preferred.
