    Description


    Capital Area Transit System (CATS) is seeking a Risk and Safety Supervisor to provide day-to-day oversight of agency safety activities, accident and incident investigations, field safety observations, hazard identification, corrective-action follow-up, and safety documentation.
    The Supervisor works closely with the Risk and Safety Manager and operating departments to ensure safety policies and procedures are consistently applied in the field and that assigned investigations, inspections, and corrective actions are completed accurately and timely.

    Key Responsibilities
    • Respond to and investigate vehicle accidents, incidents, employee injuries, passenger events, and other safety matters.
    • Collect statements, photographs, video, vehicle and scene information, and other supporting documentation.
    • Prepare objective and thorough investigation reports for management review.
    • Track open investigations and assigned corrective actions through completion.
    • Conduct field safety observations, facility inspections, ride checks, and safety audits.
    • Identify unsafe behaviors, hazards, procedural gaps, and recurring safety concerns.
    • Coordinate immediate mitigation or escalation when unsafe conditions require prompt action.
    • Document safety findings and verify completion of assigned corrective actions.
    • Coordinate with Transportation, Maintenance, Security, and other departments regarding safety concerns and incident response.
    • Promote consistent reporting and escalation of hazards, near misses, and unsafe conditions.
    • Maintain accurate safety files, investigation records, inspection documentation, and other required safety records.
    • Support regulatory reports, audits, inspections, and required safety-plan documentation.
    • Ensure assigned safety data and documentation are accurate and submitted within established timeframes.
    • Protect confidential and sensitive safety and investigation information.
    Qualifications
    • Experience in transit safety, transportation operations, accident/incident investigation, occupational safety, law enforcement, fleet operations, regulatory compliance, or a closely related field.
    • Knowledge of accident/incident investigation, report writing, hazard identification, and safety procedures.
    • Strong judgment, communication, interviewing, documentation, organizational, and conflict-resolution skills.
    • Ability to effectively interact with employees, supervisors, management, customers, law enforcement, and other stakeholders.
    • Ability to manage multiple investigations, inspections, and follow-up activities simultaneously.
    Preferred Qualifications
    • Experience in public transit, transportation, fleet operations, occupational safety, law enforcement, or another safety-sensitive operating environment.
    • Experience conducting accident, incident, or workplace safety investigations.
    • Knowledge of FTA, DOT, FMCSA, OSHA, PTASP, SMS, or related transportation/workplace safety requirements.
    • Relevant safety, accident-investigation, transportation, or occupational-safety certification or training preferred.
    Additional Requirements
    • Ability to work variable shifts, evenings, weekends, holidays, and outdoors as required by service needs.
    • Must maintain any licenses, certifications, or credentials required for assigned responsibilities
