Position Summary

The University of Alabama at Birmingham, Genetics Research Division, is in search for a dedicated Researcher Associate to join their team. The Xu Lab employs a multi-disciplinary approach including Single-Cell sequencing, Proteolysis targeting chimeric (PROTAC) technology, multi-omics, biochemistry, organoid, and in vivo mouse models to interrogate the regulation of the mitosis program by oncogenic signaling pathways in cancer cells and explore new therapeutic strategies. Additionally, the lab has a long-term interest in translating primary research findings into clinical applications to develop novel targeted therapies, gene therapies based on Adeno-associated virus (AAV) vector-mediated gene delivery or Lipid nanoparticles (LNP)-mediated mRNA delivery, and immunotherapies. We are particularly interested in PI3K/AKT/PTEN pathway and KRAS pathway. Our disease focus is solid tumors with an emphasis on breast cancer and prostate cancer. More specifically, the research involves small molecule screening using western blot analysis and in vitro testing of candidate molecules using colony formation assay and Incucyte experiment. It requires knowledge of basic Cell and molecular biology lab techniques, western blot, DNA/RNA extraction as well as (q)PCR/RT-(q)PCR, DNA cloning (ligation, transformation), gel electrophoresis (agarose, polyacrylamide), cell culturing experiments, transfection/transduction, and cell imaging.

General Responsibilities

As a Researcher Associate, this intermediate-level position will require you to independently conduct more complex studies and analyses, contributing to the advancement of research projects. With greater autonomy, you will design experiments, interpret data, and collaborate with senior researchers to develop and refine research protocols. Your role may also include mentoring junior staff and ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards. Depending on the research focus, this position may involve research collaborator contact, research animal contact, and/or specimens.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  • To set up and perform routine and established lab procedures in support of lab goals.

  • To collect, enter and summarize data.

  • To monitor results and report unusual outcomes.

  • To help with administrative and operational lab activities

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Hourly Range: $ 19.80- $ 32.15
