High school diploma or equivalent

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous experience working in a research laboratory environment.
• Experience with molecular biology, genetics, microscopy, or related laboratory techniques.
• Familiarity with handling and maintaining model organisms is desirable but not required.

Position Summary

The Research Technician will support research activities in the Department of Genetics within Dr. Alicia Rogers' laboratory. This position will contribute to establishing a research program focused on small RNA biology and understanding how small RNA pathways regulate gene expression during stress in Caenorhabditis elegans (C. elegans). Responsibilities include assisting with laboratory experiments, maintaining laboratory materials and media, collecting and organizing research data, and supporting studies utilizing molecular genetics, microscopy, image analysis, and bioinformatics approaches. The position works closely with the principal investigator, graduate students, and other laboratory personnel in a collaborative research environment.

Research Support and Experimental Activities

• Assist with laboratory experiments related to small RNA biology, gene regulation, fertility, and development in C. elegans.
• Perform routine molecular genetics and microscopy procedures according to established protocols.
• Collect, organize, and maintain experimental data and laboratory records.
• Assist with image analysis and other research-related data collection activities.
• Support ongoing research projects under the direction of the principal investigator and graduate students.

Preparation of Stock Solutions and Laboratory Reagents

• Prepare and maintain general laboratory stock solutions and reagents.
• Ensure materials are accurately prepared, labeled, and stored according to laboratory procedures.
• Maintain inventories of laboratory supplies and notify supervisors of replenishment needs.

Percentage of time 10 Duties/Responsibilities

Media Preparation and Laboratory Maintenance

• Prepare Nematode Growth Media (NGM) and pour plates for routine laboratory use.
• Assist with maintaining a clean, organized, and safe laboratory environment.
• Support routine laboratory operations and equipment maintenance as needed.
