    Description

    Overview

    Reports directly to the designated immediate manager for the assigned practice or outpatient department. Responsible for providing efficient, accurate, and professional administrative and patient-facing support.

    Responsibilities

    • Schedule and coordinate patient appointments in accordance with department and provider requirements.
    • Interview patients to obtain and verify accurate demographic, insurance, and financial information.
    • Register patients and perform all required patient registration functions.
    • Obtain necessary patient signatures, authorizations, and documentation required for billing and insurance purposes.
    • Enter and order laboratory and other diagnostic tests through the appropriate computer system as directed by physicians.
    • Complete end-of-day patient disposition activities and compile required patient and departmental statistics.
    • Greet patients upon arrival and notify appropriate staff of their arrival.
    • Answer and direct incoming telephone calls for the assigned practice or department in a professional and courteous manner.
    • Serve as a liaison between patients, nurses, physicians, and other healthcare team members to facilitate effective communication and coordination of care.
    • Provide exceptional customer service and maintain a welcoming, professional environment for all patients, families, visitors, and staff.
    • Maintain confidentiality and handle patient information in accordance with applicable policies and regulations.

    Qualifications

    Required Education

    • High school diploma or GED required.

    Required Skills and Qualifications

    • Excellent decision-making skills, initiative, and sound judgment.
    • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
    • Excellent verbal communication skills in English.
    • Basic arithmetic skills necessary to perform cashiering and financial transactions accurately.
    • Previous data entry experience required.
    • Ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple responsibilities, and organize workflow effectively.
    • Ability to remain professional and provide exceptional customer service when handling stressful or challenging situations.
    • Proficiency with computer systems for data entry and reviewing patient demographic information.

    Required Experience

    • Minimum of one (1) year of experience working with third-party payors.

    Preferred Experience

    • Up to four (4) years of clerical or customer service experience, preferably in a healthcare-related environment.
    • Experience working with patient demographic information and healthcare-related computer systems.

    Preferred Licensure/Certifications

    • Knowledge of ICD-9 and CPT coding preferred.
    • Completion of a medical terminology course is preferred but not required.
