US:NV:Carson City Labor and Delivery Unit
Full Time Day Shift
After initial 90 days, majority of schedule would be as an Educator with a secondary assignment as Charge RN and Floor RN worked 1-2 times per pay period. Schedule will be equivalent to 40 hours a week.
Summary
In keeping with Carson Tahoe Health's philosophy, the Department RN Educator works collaboratively with the Nurse Manager to assess, plan, implement, evaluate, document and coordinate clinical educational opportunities for appropriate nursing staff to promote advanced skill levels. The Educator observes staff within the unit for competency demonstration, provides assessment of that competency, identifies educational needs for staff, and provides hands-on training within the Department. The Educator also provides clinical leadership and mentoring within the department.
Qualifications
Required:
- Current and unencumbered licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) through the Nevada State Board of Nursing
- American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) for healthcare providers
- Documented evidence of teaching and education experience
- Computer proficiency including MS Office Suite
- Bachelor's degree in nursing (BSN)
Preferred:
- Experience with Learning Management System
- American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) Instructor
- American Heart Association (AHA) Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Instructor
- American Heart Association (AHA) Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Instructor
Unit Specific Requirements
Labor & Delivery
Required:
- Must successfully complete/maintain Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification on position entry. After an Instructor cert is obtained, a regular cert is no longer needed
- Must successfully complete/maintain Instructor Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification within one (1) year of hire or position entry
- Must successfully complete/maintain S.T.A.B.L.E. Program certification
- Must successfully complete/maintain AWHONN Advanced Fetal Monitoring OR National
- Certification Corporation (NCC) Certified Electronic Fetal Monitoring (C-EFM) at time of hire or position entry. After an Instructor cert is obtained, an advanced cert is no longer needed
- Must successfully complete/maintain AWHONN Instructor Fetal Monitoring within eighteen (18) months of hire or position entry and renewed every two (2) years thereafter
- American Heart Association (AHA) Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) for healthcare providers within six (6) months of hire or position entry
- Five (5) years of experience in a Labor & Delivery or Women's and Children's department
Essential Functions
- Applies adult learning principles and learning theory in the development and implementation of training programs for nursing staff.
- Collaborates with staff, physicians and nurse manager to assess nurse abilities and to design learning experiences that enhance knowledge and skills.
- Attends and participates in interdepartmental activities as required, to effectively assess, implement and evaluate educational needs of staff.
- Incorporates research and evidence-based practice when problem solving clinical performance/education issues.
- Plans and implements staff drills for various high risk, low frequency events for quality improvement.
- Demonstrates a commitment to lifelong learning.
- Anticipates clinical practice changes and participates in planning to meet the educational needs of nurses to meet the challenges of change.
- Maintains clinical competence through working as staff nurse. Role models clinical competence.
- Effectively shares expertise and mentors novice nurses.
- Develops and presents curriculum based on unit deficiencies and opportunities.
- Works in a team setting to plan, develop and implement programs to increase knowledge and skill.
- Possesses initiative and the ability to work independently.
- Maintains professional relationship with Human Resources Department and collaborates and participates in general educational initiatives.
- Participate in various Regulatory Compliance activities.
- Ability to complete essential functions outlined in Registered Nurse job description.
- Demonstrates performance of nursing care requiring advanced clinical skill and knowledge.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
