Quality Engineer

Blueprint Reading and GD&T: The ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and apply GD&T principles is a core technical requirement for this role. 30–40% — Data and Collaboration: Organizing and analyzing quality data, coordinating with cross-functional partners on shift to address systemic issues.

Our client, a Automotive company, is looking for a Quality Engineer for their Redford, MI location.
 
Responsibilities:

• The main function of a quality engineer is to research and test the design, functionality and maintenance of products, equipment, systems and processes and develop quality standards.
• A typical quality engineer has the ability to read and interpret blueprints, and evaluate product integrity and standards.
• Coordinates quality objectives with other departments
• Drives continuous improvement by developing and implementing error and mistake proofing
• Keeps management abreast of progress, developments and pending problems
• Drive issues to closure through the various quality feedback loops
• Analyzes assembly process data to look for trends or possible upcoming concerns.
• Works with Advanced Quality Tools (i.e., PFMEAs) to ensure a quality assembly process
• Keeps management abreast of progress, developments and pending problems
• Analyzes SPC data and works with manufacturing engineering to make process improvements
• Knowledge of GD&T and CMM operations
• Facilitate others in the executions of Quality Improvement activities
• To work in a plant environment, working hands-on with engine assembly
• This is a plant-floor-forward role. Most of the shift is spent actively engaged in the production environment, not behind a desk.
• 5–10% — Meetings: Daily shop floor meetings and shift handovers to align on open issues, priorities, and status
• 50–60% — Floor Work: Working directly with operators on the line, identifying and resolving quality issues as they arise in real time
• 30–40% — Data and Collaboration: Organizing and analyzing quality data, coordinating with cross-functional partners on shift to address systemic issues
• The team supports quality control and production assurance for HDEP engine assembly. Contractor will work alongside two other QA engineers.

 
Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering required
• 2–4 years of experience in a high-volume manufacturing environment
• Experience with SPC data analysis
• Proficiency with advanced quality tools, including PFMEAs
• Knowledge of GD&T and CMM operations
• Ability to read and interpret engineering blueprints and technical drawings
• Experience analyzing assembly process data to identify trends and drive corrective action
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced plant environment and building rapport with hourly production staff
• Ability to handle conflict professionally and drive issues to resolution under pressure
• The strongest candidates will bring the right technical foundation paired with the right mindset — someone who is motivated by challenge, comfortable with ambiguity, and capable of owning issues independently from day one.
• Top 3 must-have hard skills:
• Manufacturing Experience: Hands-on experience in a high-volume manufacturing environment is essential. The candidate must be comfortable on the production floor and able to work effectively alongside hourly staff.
• Blueprint Reading and GD&T: The ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and apply GD&T principles is a core technical requirement for this role.
• Advanced Quality Tools: Demonstrated experience with PFMEAs and SPC data analysis. Familiarity with CMM operations is a strong plus.
