Description
Job Description: Powertrain Calibration Methodology Engineer is responsible for developing, testing, and validating propulsion system calibration processes which achieve world-class range, fuel economy, and drivability meeting current and future emission standards. The engineer will develop new calibration processes for both virtual and physical testing resources using techniques such as MIL, HIL & Propulsion System Benches. This role will include cross functional interaction with different CoE teams and support engineers. Process development will occur with new powertrain technologies such as ICE, BEV xHEV for both future and carry over applications. The engineer will develop disruptive technology processes that optimize the efficiency, quality, and product delivery for the calibration functions.
Job responsibilities include but not limited to:
Understanding of Dyno, Propulsion system benches operations and data analysis
Support construction of virtual models to simulate system performance
Provide expertise to correlate vehicle, dyno, and virtual datasets
Work with the CoE teams to ensure best practices are developed and followed
Provide guidance for calibrators to assure system performance objectives
Work closely with Virtual and HIL teams to ensure and define feature functionality
Need to understand the Hybrid and electrified powertrain controls algorithm developed in MATLAB/SIMULINK platform
Work with the data acquisition and analysis tools such as dSPACE Automation, Controldesk, ETAS-INCA, MDA
Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor's Degree in Electrical/Mechanical Engineering, Master's, PhD Preferred.
5+ Years of Dyno lab experience with calibration of ICE, XHEV powertrain
3+ Years of experience developing Calibration testing and verification methodology
2+ Years of experience in automotive controls/SW verification using MIL, SIL, HIL platforms
2+ Years of experience in validation support of dSPACE or NI HIL simulators
1+ Years of experience in dSPACE control and automation desk software.
Position Overview: Client is seeking an early-career engineer with a strong foundation in powertrain calibration methodologies and laboratory-based testing environments. The role will support multiple powertrain domains, including internal combustion engines (ICE), hybrid electric vehicles (HEV/XHEV), and battery electric vehicles (BEV).
Key Requirements: Technical Experience
0–3 years of experience in powertrain calibration, testing, or related engineering fields.
Experience working in laboratory environments, including:
Engine dynos
Propulsion system dynos
Electric motor dynos
Understanding of powertrain systems and calibration processes.
Exposure to both traditional ICE and electrified powertrains (HEV/XHEV/BEV).
Familiarity with:
MATLAB
Simulink
dSPACE HIL simulators
Basic controls knowledge, including PID control concepts.
Experience with calibration and data analysis tools such as:
ETAS INCA
MDSI
Similar calibration/data analysis platforms
Desired Background
Hands-on experience with powertrain systems through internships, laboratory work, research projects, or coursework.
Understanding of how hybrid and electric powertrains operate.
Candidates with academic exposure and practical project work may be considered even if professional experience is limited.
Soft Skills:
Strong communication skills are critical.
Ability to work effectively in a laboratory and cross-functional environment.
Flexibility to support multiple powertrain domains and adapt as project needs change.
Team Structure and Scope
Darshan's team is global and highly cross-functional.
The team supports all powertrain architectures:
Battery Electric Vehicles (BEV)
Hybrid/Electrified Powertrains (XHEV/HEV)
Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) applications
Engineers are expected to work across multiple domains rather than specializing in only one area.
Candidates should be comfortable transitioning between ICE, hybrid, and electric vehicle projects.
Candidate Profile Summary
Ideal candidates will have:
Master's degree in a relevant engineering discipline.
0–3 years of experience.
Laboratory and virtual development experience.
Knowledge of ICE, HEV/XHEV, or BEV powertrains.
Exposure to calibration tools, controls, and simulation environments.
