The Torrance Police Department Communications Center is a 24-hour emergency communications facility that serves as the primary point of contact for 911 and non-emergency calls for service. Staffed by highly trained Public Safety Dispatchers, the Communications Center receives and prioritizes calls, dispatches Police and Fire personnel, coordinates emergency response efforts, and maintains critical communication with field units to ensure the safety and well-being of the Torrance community.
The PositionThe Public Safety Communications Supervisor oversees the daily operations of the City's 24-hour Public Safety Communications Center, ensuring the efficient delivery of Police, Fire, and emergency medical dispatch services. This position supervises Public Safety Dispatchers and 911 Operators; provides guidance on complex operational issues, coordinates staffing and schedules; and serves as a working supervisor by performing dispatch and call-taking duties as needed.
The incumbent is responsible for developing and administering training programs; ensuring compliance with certification requirements; and maintaining quality assurance standards for emergency communications operations. The position also researches and implements new technologies and dispatch systems; develops and updates policies and procedures; analyzes operational data to improve service delivery; and serves as a liaison with public safety departments and partner agencies.
