Description

Clayton Services is seeking an experienced Project Manager to join a rapidly growing energy and engineering services company in the Spring, Texas area. The Project Manager will lead technically complex energy infrastructure projects through engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, and closeout while managing project schedules, costs, risks, clients, vendors, and internal resources.

The ideal candidate will have an engineering background combined with significant project management experience in power generation, energy, oil and gas, or a related heavy industrial environment. This position requires a hands-on project leader who understands both the technical and commercial sides of project execution and is comfortable working within a fast-growing, entrepreneurial organization.

Job Type: Direct Hire or Contract
Pay Rate: $170,000 - $220,000

Project Manager Responsibilities:
  • Lead full-lifecycle execution of complex energy and infrastructure projects from project initiation through commissioning and closeout.
  • Manage project scope, schedule, budget, cost, quality, safety, and overall project performance.
  • Coordinate engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, logistics, vendors, subcontractors, and other project resources.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for customers and maintain strong communication throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Develop and maintain project execution plans, schedules, budgets, forecasts, risk registers, and progress reports.
  • Maintain strong project cost controls and monitor financial performance throughout project execution.
  • Identify potential schedule, cost, technical, procurement, and execution risks and proactively develop mitigation strategies.
  • Oversee FEED and detailed engineering activities associated with assigned projects.
  • Coordinate and obtain required project information from engineers, suppliers, contractors, customers, and other stakeholders.
  • Manage subcontractors, equipment suppliers, and vendors throughout project execution.
  • Support contract administration, negotiations, change management, and project documentation.
  • Conduct site visits and surveys and provide support during field execution and commissioning activities.
  • Assist in evaluating equipment and developing technical solutions for prospective projects and customers.
  • Support proposal development and other front-end project activities as needed.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to project engineers and other project team members.
  • Ensure projects follow established safety, quality, project-control, and execution requirements.
  • Work collaboratively across disciplines while remaining willing to personally handle tasks necessary to move projects forward.
  • Support the development and continuous improvement of project management processes as the organization grows.
Project Manager Skills and Abilities:
  • Strong understanding of project management principles within power generation, energy, oil and gas, EPC/EPCM, or heavy industrial environments.
  • Strong knowledge of project scheduling and cost-control principles.
  • Proficiency with Primavera P6, Microsoft Project, or comparable project scheduling and controls software.
  • Ability to manage technically complex projects involving high-value equipment and multiple stakeholders.
  • Strong understanding of engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning workflows.
  • Excellent client-facing communication and relationship-management skills.
  • Ability to effectively coordinate engineers, vendors, subcontractors, construction personnel, and other project resources.
  • Strong commercial awareness with experience managing budgets, forecasting, change orders, and project risks.
  • Ability to understand technical engineering information and effectively communicate between technical and nontechnical stakeholders.
  • Strong leadership, decision-making, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to operate effectively without extensive oversight or established corporate infrastructure.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with a willingness to take ownership beyond narrowly defined job responsibilities.
  • Ability and willingness to travel to project sites throughout Texas and Louisiana and occasionally elsewhere domestically or internationally.
  • Ability to work onsite when not traveling to customer or project locations.
  • Valid passport or ability to obtain one preferred.
Project Manager Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering strongly preferred; Construction Management or a closely related technical discipline may also be considered.
  • Approximately 7-12+ years of total relevant engineering/project experience preferred.
  • 5-10 years of dedicated project management experience within power generation, energy, oil and gas, EPC/EPCM, or heavy industrial projects preferred.
  • Power generation experience is highly preferred.
  • Gas turbine, turbomachinery, rotating equipment, or related major equipment experience is a strong plus.
  • Experience managing projects through engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning preferred.
  • Previous experience with an EPC/EPCM organization, power-generation company, turbine OEM, or similar technical environment is highly desirable.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is preferred but not required.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license is a significant plus.
  • Candidates with a PE license and slightly less project management experience may be considered.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States without employer sponsorship.
