    Reports to: Construction Manager                                           Location: Westminster, CO  
    Wage Range: $70,000-$78,000 annually, plus annual bonus incentive

    As a Project Engineer I, you will gain hands-on experience across the full lifecycle of commercial mechanical construction—from engineering and design through field operations and project management. You will work alongside engineers, project managers, field leaders, skilled craft professionals, clients, vendors, and trade partners while developing a practical understanding of how complex mechanical systems are designed, coordinated, installed, and delivered.

    The rotation program is intentionally broad and tailored to each employee’s development. Over the course of the program, which may take up to five years, you will move through multiple areas of the business, build meaningful relationships across MTech, and identify the career path that best aligns with your strengths and interests.
    Throughout the experience, you will be supported by MTech’s Project Engineer Manager, who will provide consistent coaching, feedback, and guidance as you grow.

    This is an entry-level opportunity with long-term career potential in project management, engineering, preconstruction, estimating, sales engineering, field operations, and other areas of the business.

    Essential Job Functions:

    Project and Field Operations
    During your project and field rotations, you will support project managers and field leaders with coordination, documentation, financial tracking, and day-to-day execution of commercial mechanical projects.

    Your experience may include:
    • Establishing project files, documentation, budgets, contracts, and accounting information.
    • Coordinating permits, licenses, insurance certificates, bonds, subcontracts, and other project requirements.
    • Managing the flow of submittals, drawings, requests for information, change documentation, and current project plans.
    • Supporting equipment and material procurement by coordinating with vendors, subcontractors, purchasing, project managers, and field leaders.
    • Monitoring equipment, material, and submittal schedules and following up on outstanding items.
    • Reviewing job-cost information, researching discrepancies, and helping project teams maintain accurate financial records.
    • Assisting with change orders, monthly billings, projections, lien releases, subcontractor invoices, and project reporting.
    • Coordinating project start-up, turnover, closeout, operations and maintenance manuals, warranties, and service transition.
    • Spending time on active jobsites to understand construction sequencing, field coordination, installation practices, safety expectations, and the connection between project plans and completed work.
    • Building trusted working relationships with MTech’s field teams, clients, general contractors, design partners, vendors, and subcontractors.
    Engineering and Design
    During your engineering rotation, you will work with MTech’s Engineering, Preconstruction, and Virtual Design and Construction teams to gain experience with the design and coordination of commercial mechanical systems.

    Your experience may include:
    • Assisting with mechanical construction documents through conceptual design, schematic design, design development, and construction-document phases.
    • Supporting project pursuits through preliminary system selections, conceptual designs, one-line diagrams, code research, energy analysis, and project interviews.
    • Preparing heating and cooling load calculations, system-sizing information, and equipment selections under the guidance of experienced engineers.
    • Assisting with plumbing calculations and layouts for domestic water, waste and vent, roof drainage, and gas-piping systems.
    • Reviewing architectural, structural, electrical, and mechanical documents to help identify coordination needs and potential conflicts.
    • Participating in coordination efforts with architects, general contractors, engineers, trade partners, and internal project teams.
    • Conducting building surveys to document existing conditions for renovation and retrofit projects.
    • Supporting construction observation, commissioning, troubleshooting, project closeout, and other phases of project delivery.
    • Developing working knowledge of applicable building codes, mechanical and plumbing standards, design practices, and MTech quality expectations.
    • Regular and predictable attendance is expected in order to meet the requirements of this position

    Specific responsibilities will evolve as you move through the rotation program and demonstrate increased technical knowledge, independence, and proficiency.

    Qualifications:
    • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Architectural Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
    • Interest in commercial construction, mechanical systems, engineering, or project management.
    • Strong communication, organization, problem-solving, and relationship-building skills.
    • A positive, curious, and proactive approach to learning and supporting project teams.
    • Ability to collaborate with people across a wide range of roles, from skilled craft professionals and field leaders to engineers, clients, and executives.
    • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, and Outlook.
    • Ability to manage multiple priorities, follow through on details, and adapt as project needs change.
    • Ability and willingness to work in both office and active construction-site environments.
    • Knowledge of HVAC or plumbing systems, construction documents, or equipment applications is helpful but not required. Experience with programs such as Procore, Viewpoint, Revit, AutoCAD, or Trane TRACE is also a plus.

    Physical Requirements:
    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk or hear; taste or smell. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

    Work Environment
    This position takes place in a general office environment. Work is generally sedentary in nature, but may require standing and walking for up to 20% of the time. The work environment is generally favorable. Lighting and temperature are reasonable. Work is generally performed within an office environment, with standard office equipment available.
