Why does the job exist?

The purpose of this position is to oversee operations focused on locating, investigating, and returning probationers, parolees, or escapees who have absconded from community supervision under the New Mexico Corrections Department. The position will provide oversight and leadership to Probation and Parole Officers while coordinating with local law enforcement agencies to ensure public safety while returning offenders back into the custody and/or supervision of the New Mexico Corrections Department. It will also be responsible for tracking data, maintaining secure records, and ensure adherence to court orders and department policies.

How does it get done?

• Works with other Probation/Parole Officers and law enforcement Officers to apprehend Absconders throughout New Mexico
• Direct daily activities of recovery or fugitive tracking units to locate and apprehend supervision violators. This may include utilizing computer databases, internet search engines, social media, interviews, informants, etc. to develop intelligence on the whereabouts of Absconders
• Networks with city, county, state, and federal law enforcement officers to maximize the likelihood of Absconder apprehensions

Ideal Candidate

Experience with the following:

• Ensuring compliance with American Correctional Association (ACA) standards
• Reviewing court, parole board, interstate compact and tactical operation documents
• Managing a caseload, writing reports, and conducting fugitive investigations

Minimum Qualification

Bachelors Degree in a relevant field of study from an accredited college or university and four (4) years of professional level experience with a tactical impact directly related to the purpose of the position defined by the agency at the time of recruitment. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling eight (8) years may substitute for the required education and experience.

Employment Requirements

This position is designed safety sensitive. Employment is subject to pre-employment and random testing in accordance with all terms and conditions of Federal and State law, rules and regulations in relation to alcohol and/or drug testing. Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico Drivers License. Pre-employment background check is required and conditional pending results.

Working Conditions

Work is performed in an adult prison environment, and field setting which includes daily contact with and supervision of adult offenders and or inmates. May be required to work odd hours, overtime, holidays, and weekends.
