Job Details

Key Responsibilities and Duties

• Supervise production activities within an assigned food-production or packaging department.
• Coordinate production-line activities to complete daily production orders.
• Lead, mentor, train, and motivate approximately 25–50 production employees.
• Maintain product-quality standards and ensure compliance with customer specifications.
• Monitor the efficient use of employees, raw materials, equipment, and production resources.
• Track and report production yields, operational efficiencies, and labor utilization.
• Identify opportunities to improve materials, processes, production flow, and employee performance.
• Support lean manufacturing and Total Quality Management initiatives.
• Ensure production processes and finished products comply with GMP requirements.
• Follow the facility’s HACCP plan and maintain accurate HACCP records.
• Coordinate with maintenance personnel and outside vendors to minimize equipment downtime.
• Ensure production equipment and work areas are maintained and operating efficiently.
• Build effective working relationships with plant management and USDA representatives.
• Stay current on poultry-processing and food-production technologies and systems.
• Ensure compliance with USDA, OSHA, EEO, and other applicable government regulations.
• Communicate performance expectations and operating standards to production employees.
• Recognize employee and team accomplishments and address performance concerns.
• Train employees and enforce safety regulations and workplace practices.
• Manage department staffing, production-line coverage, and attendance.
• Conduct team meetings and employee training sessions.
• Maintain accurate training, production, food-safety, and employee documentation.
• Support production areas that may include tray pack, deboning, processing, whole-bird packaging, evisceration, and related departments.

Qualifications Needed

• Associate degree in Poultry Science, Animal Science, Agriculture, Engineering, or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
• Minimum of two years of proven production supervisory experience.
• Experience supervising employees in food production, food processing, or packaging is required.
• Poultry-processing experience is preferred but not required.
• Experience leading approximately 25–50 production or packaging employees.
• Working knowledge of HACCP, GMPs, product-quality standards, and manufacturing safety requirements.
• Experience managing staffing, production-line coverage, attendance, employee training, and performance.
• Experience monitoring production yields, efficiencies, labor utilization, downtime, and material usage.
• Exposure to lean manufacturing, Total Quality Management, or other continuous-improvement programs.
• Proven ability to coordinate production-line activities and meet daily production requirements.
• Ability and willingness to learn and perform the jobs within the assigned department.
• Ability to work changing shifts when production demands require additional coverage.
• Strong reading, writing, mathematical, and analytical skills.
• Basic proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
• Ability to spend the entire shift standing or walking.
• Ability to work in a wet, humid, and cold food-processing environment with exposure to animal by-products and feathers.
