Job Details

Key Responsibilities and Duties

• Supervise, mentor, train, and develop a team of 8–10 FSQA technicians.
• Develop, document, implement, and maintain programs ensuring compliance with customer, company, and regulatory requirements.
• Administer and oversee HACCP, SSOP, pre-operational and operational sanitation, animal-welfare, prerequisite, and quality-assurance programs.
• Maintain GFSI and QA procedural compliance.
• Review, compile, and maintain daily HACCP, SSOP, and pre-operational inspection documentation.
• Train employees before implementing new food-safety or quality processes and procedures.
• Ensure the FSQA department is appropriately staffed, trained, scheduled, and organized.
• Oversee laboratory testing performed by FSQA personnel, including:
• Salmonella, Campylobacter, and E. coli testing
• Fat analysis and equipment calibration
• Calcium and bone-percentage testing
• Avian influenza blood analysis
• Water sampling
• Pesticide-residue testing
• Antibiotic-free and organic testing
• Environmental swabbing and monitoring
• Monitor laboratory inventory and approve supply orders.
• Maintain a positive working relationship with USDA representatives and respond promptly to regulatory concerns.
• Communicate USDA concerns and corrective actions to plant managers and supervisors.
• Investigate customer and product-quality concerns and document corrective actions.
• Prepare the facility for third-party audits, including organic, antibiotic-free, animal-welfare, GFSI, and co-packer audits.
• Participate in hiring, training, performance reviews, development, and progressive discipline for FSQA technicians.
• Schedule department personnel while managing overtime and labor costs.
• Enforce GMP, HACCP, quality, food-safety, and employee-safety requirements.
• Manage staffing and attendance and facilitate team meetings and training.
• Serve as the backup to the QA Manager when the manager is unavailable.
• Work additional hours, weekends, second shift, or pre-operational inspection coverage when operational needs require it.

Qualifications Needed

• Bachelor’s degree in Poultry Science, Animal Science, Food Science, or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
• Minimum 1–2 years of poultry-industry quality assurance experience.
• Previous supervisory experience within food or poultry manufacturing.
• Hands-on experience working in a USDA-regulated manufacturing or poultry-processing facility is required.
• HACCP certification from an accredited organization.
• GFSI certification from an accredited organization.
• Experience with HACCP, SSOP, GMP, pre-operational inspections, prerequisite programs, corrective actions, and USDA documentation.
• Experience supervising, scheduling, training, and developing FSQA technicians.
• Knowledge of microbiological, environmental, organic, antibiotic-free, and product-quality testing.
• Experience preparing for and supporting third-party and regulatory audits.
• Ability to work in a poultry-processing environment with temperature variation and noise levels requiring hearing protection.
• Ability to stand and walk for most of the shift and lift up to 40 pounds.
• Basic proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel.
• Availability for occasional weekends, off-shift coverage, and additional hours based on production needs.
