Position Overview
Aspen Technical Staffing is seeking an experienced Principal Civil/Structural Engineer for a direct hire opportunity with our client in Charlotte, North Carolina. This senior-level position serves as the technical authority for structural engineering on large-scale power, energy, and industrial projects. The successful candidate will provide engineering leadership, oversee structural design activities, mentor engineering staff, and support projects from Front-End Engineering Design (FEED) through Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) execution.

Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the senior technical authority for structural engineering on major power and industrial projects.
- Lead the engineering and design of structural steel, reinforced concrete, and foundation systems.
- Review and approve engineering calculations, technical studies, design packages, specifications, and other project deliverables.
- Develop structural and geotechnical engineering specifications and scopes of work.
- Provide technical leadership throughout FEL, FEED, detailed engineering, and EPC project execution.
- Resolve complex structural engineering issues and develop innovative technical solutions.
- Mentor and provide technical guidance to engineers across multiple project teams.
- Collaborate with clients, project management, construction personnel, and multidisciplinary engineering teams.
- Ensure compliance with applicable building codes, engineering standards, quality requirements, and safety regulations.
- Participate in constructability reviews, material selection, field investigations, site walkdowns, construction support, and troubleshooting.
- Coordinate with civil, mechanical, electrical, process, and other engineering disciplines to ensure successful project execution.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or Structural Engineering from an ABET-accredited university.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
- Minimum of 15 years of structural engineering experience supporting power generation, energy, industrial, or heavy industrial projects.
- Extensive experience designing structural steel, reinforced concrete, and foundation systems.
- Strong working knowledge of AISC, ACI, IBC, and other applicable structural design codes and standards.
- Proficiency with structural analysis software including STAAD.Pro, RISA, Enercalc, or similar programs.
- Demonstrated experience leading technical engineering decisions on complex projects.
- Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and presentation skills.
- Ability to mentor engineers and work effectively within multidisciplinary project teams.
Preferred Qualifications
- Structural Engineer (SE) license.
- Master's degree in Structural Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
- Experience supporting large EPC and Design-Build projects.
- Background in power generation, utilities, chemical processing, or heavy industrial facilities.
- Construction support, field engineering, and site experience.
