Portuguese Immersion Daycare Teacher
Sorrisinho is a new Portuguese immersion daycare opening in Silver Spring, MD, serving infants through preschoolers. We're looking for caring, reliable teachers to help create a safe, warm classroom where children learn and build relationships through Portuguese. As a new center with a small team, teachers will help establish daily routines and shape the program as it grows.
Responsibilities
- Provide attentive, developmentally appropriate care for children from infancy through preschool
- Use Portuguese as the primary language for classroom instruction and daily interactions
- Plan and lead age-appropriate activities that support children's language, social, emotional, and physical development
- Maintain a safe, clean, and welcoming classroom
- Follow center procedures and Maryland Office of Child Care (OCC) requirements, including supervision and staff-to-child ratios
- Communicate respectfully with families about children's daily experiences, needs, and progress
- Work collaboratively with the Center Director and teaching team
- Help maintain classroom materials, routines, and required records
Requirements
- Fluent in spoken Portuguese
- Meets applicable Maryland OCC staff qualification requirements for the assigned role and age group
- Experience caring for or teaching young children; early childhood classroom experience is a plus
- Patient, dependable, and attentive to children's safety and individual needs
- Comfortable working as part of a small team in a new center
- Able to communicate effectively with families and colleagues
Nice to have
- Experience with infants or toddlers
- Familiarity with Portuguese-speaking cultures and traditions
- Experience supporting children with diverse learning or developmental needs
