The Addiction Provider (MD) is responsible for the management of withdrawal, the initiation, maintenance, and support of Medically Assisted Treatment of alcohol and drug use disorders for HealthRIGHT 360 clients. The Addiction provider is responsible for taking medical histories, performing physical examinations, using screening tools, ordering, and interpreting laboratory tests, and diagnosing and treating common illnesses and injuries. This position is responsible for collaborating with the Intake Department to assess safe entry into our detox and residential treatment programs for patients with substance use disorders. Addiction Providers may be located within HealthRIGHT 360's residential recovery programs, detox programs, or community health centers to provide direct patient care.

The Addiction Provider may also provide supervision and oversight for Advanced Practice Providers in Collaborative Agreements, providing supervision and having input in the clinical review, performance appraisal, peer review and hiring and termination of such staff. The Addiction Provider also supervises the MAT healthcare treatment team in the absence of the Director of Addiction Medicine, which includes: managing Medical Assistant functions, and Registered Nurse functions. The position may require work during the night and on weekends.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Assesses drug and alcohol use and determines the level of severity using screening tools and current DSM criteria.
• Determines medication withdrawal management for patients detoxing from drugs and alcohol to prevent withdrawal complications.
• Determines appropriate level of treatment care based on current drug and alcohol use.
• Prescribes various Medical Assisted Treatments to reduce harm and prevent complications from drug and alcohol use.
• Educates and prescribes Naloxone to patients to reduce harm from drug use.
• Educates, supports, and cares for patients receiving medication-assisted treatment in continuity and maintenance.
• Analyzes and interprets patient history, symptoms, physical findings, and/or diagnostic information to develop appropriate diagnoses.
• Maintains complete and detailed records of patients history, assessment, and health care plans.
• Takes medical histories, performs physical examinations, orders, and interprets laboratory tests, and diagnoses and treats common illnesses and injuries.
• Diagnosis and treatment of illness and injury related to addiction use disorder.
• Consulting with the Director of Addiction Medicine for treatment or referral options.
• Collaboration with behavior health and psychiatry teams at ICC.
• Provide oversight for Advanced Practice Providers including entering into a Collaborative Agreement with the Advanced Practice Provider, providing supervision, having input in the clinical review, performance appraisal, peer review, and hiring and termination of providers and clinical support staff.

And perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education, Certification, and Experience

• M.D. or D. O. degree from an accredited United States medical school.
• Successfully completed internship and residency at an accredited United States Internship or Residency Program.
• Board Certified in family medicine or internal medicine.
• Board certified or registered in addiction medicine, or equivalent experience.
• Valid and active California medical license.
• Eligible to participate in the CMS Medicaid/Medicare reimbursement programs.
• Valid and active DEA license with X waiver to prescribe buprenorphine.
• Possession of a current, valid California License to practice as a Physician Assistant issued by the California Board of Medical Quality Assurance.
• Current BLS/ACLS certificate or recertification within 2 months of hire
• Possession or DEA license and X waiver or will obtain one within one month of hire.

Desired:

• Clinical experience with and commitment to working with diverse client populations suffering from substance use disorder and addiction.
• Must complete background check and Livescan.
