Michael Hsu Office of Architecture is an award-winning, fully integrated architecture and interior design practice with offices in Austin and Houston. Our work is rooted in hospitality and placemaking and includes diverse projects that range from large mixed-use developments, adaptive reuse projects, public realm design, architectural branding, single family homes, hotels, restaurants, workspaces, and bespoke furniture design. We work throughout Texas and across the country in cities such as New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Atlanta and Denver.
We are seeking a People Operations & HR Generalist to support the day-to-day operations of our People function and create a positive, organized, and people-centered employee experience across the office. This position will report to the Head of People Operations, and work closely with them to support HR operations, onboarding, benefits administration, recruiting coordination, compliance processes, internal communication, and overall office operations related to the employee experience. The ideal candidate is highly organized, proactive, people-oriented, and comfortable balancing administrative detail with thoughtful employee support in a collaborative creative environment. This is a hybrid position, based in Austin, TX, requiring a minimum of three working days a week in-person at our Austin office.
Responsibilities Include:
Supporting the day-to-day operations of the People Operations and Human Resources function
Coordinating onboarding, offboarding, employee transitions, and related documentation/processes
Maintaining employee records, HR systems, organizational trackers, and internal documentation
Supporting benefits administration, enrollment coordination, and employee questions related to benefits and policies
Assisting with payroll preparation and HR-related reporting and audits
Coordinating recruiting logistics including interview scheduling, candidate communication, and hiring process support
Responding to employee questions and providing general day-to-day support
Supporting the implementation and communication of internal policies, processes, and programs
Assisting with employee engagement initiatives, studio events, internal programming, and culture-related efforts
Helping to maintain compliance with federal and state employment laws, workplace policies, and HR best practices
Supporting internal communication and coordination across leadership, studio teams, and general staff
Contributing to process improvement and strengthening operational excellence within the People function
Job Requirements:
3–5+ years of experience in Human Resources, People Operations, Office Operations, or related administrative roles
Strong organizational skills, follow-through, and attention to detail
Ability to commute to our Austin, TX office a minimum of three days a week (with occasional travel to our Houston, TX office)
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Maturity, discretion, and sound judgment when navigating sensitive or ambiguous situations, with the ability to recognize nuance and anticipate the interpersonal and organizational impact of decisions
Experience coordinating multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
Comfort working both independently and collaboratively
Proficiency with Google Workspace and HR/payroll systems (previous experience with ADP Workforce Now preferred)
Previous experience supporting employee onboarding, benefits, recruiting, or HR administration
Appreciation for design, hospitality, and contributing to a creative workplace culture
