Healing from the Start Program | Levine Children's Brenner Children's Hospital
Make a lasting impact on children and families recovering from trauma.
As a Pediatric Trauma Social Worker, you will provide trauma-informed behavioral health services, psychosocial assessment, counseling, care coordination, and discharge planning for infants and young children (birth-5 years) and their caregivers. Working alongside pediatric trauma, child abuse pediatrics, care coordination, and community partners, you will help promote healing, family safety, and long-term recovery.
Education & Experience
Master of Social Work (MSW) from a CSWE-accredited program.
Minimum three (3) years of clinical social work experience in a mental health setting.
Experience with clinical assessment, diagnosis, and treatment planning required.
Healthcare, pediatric, trauma, or behavioral health experience preferred.
Licensure, Certification and/or Registration
Current Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) or Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor licensure in North Carolina.
Must maintain licensure requirements throughout employment.
Essential Functions
Complete psychosocial assessments to identify emotional, social, behavioral, and environmental needs.
Provide trauma-informed assessment, counseling, crisis intervention, and family support services.
Develop and implement individualized psychosocial treatment plans.
Facilitate family meetings and collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to support treatment and discharge planning.
Coordinate behavioral health referrals, community resources, and follow-up care.
Support caregiver stabilization, infant mental health, family safety, and early relational healing.
Advocate for patients and families while navigating healthcare, community, and behavioral health systems.
Document assessments, interventions, and care plans in the electronic medical record (EMR).
Skills & Qualifications
Knowledge of DSM-5 diagnostic criteria and behavioral health treatment practices.
Strong understanding of trauma-informed care and family-centered services.
Excellent communication, counseling, and crisis intervention skills.
Ability to build collaborative relationships with patients, families, providers, and community partners.
Strong organizational, documentation, and care coordination skills.
Proficiency with EMR systems and standard computer applications.
Ability to work independently and effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
Knowledge of community mental health resources and systems of care.

Provide social work services, clinical intervention, complex discharge planning and care coordination to patients and their families. Additionally conducts family meetings and provides counseling with patients and families who present with a variety of behavioral health needs. In conjunction with the multi-disciplinary team, assists with the development of a comprehensive treatment plan to meet ongoing health and mental health needs post discharge.
