Description

Summary:

  • Location: 466 Lex 14th floor, Northwest, New York, NY
  • Work Mode: Local
  • Duration: 13 weeks
  • Full Time, M-F 8AM-4PM

Responsibilities:

  • Obtain and verify insurance coverage by interviewing patients, families, and employers, and verifying with insurance companies.
  • Ensure notifications, authorizations, and pre-certifications are made when appropriate.
  • Assist self-pay patients in obtaining coverage for hospitalization.
  • Secure promise of payments for non-covered services.
  • Ensure correct categorization of patients with regard to financial class, insurance company code, etc.
  • Work with medical areas to ensure requested clinical information is supplied timely.
  • Receive and process information required for submitting third-party bills.
  • Ensure bills are complete and comprehensive.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of electronic claim submission software and payer edits.
  • Review and monitor billing exception reports for correction/re-submission.
  • Resolve all credit balances by requesting refunds or making appropriate allowance transactions.
  • Respond to and investigate all patient inquiries involving financial issues.
  • Call insurance companies to secure payment and take appropriate action upon denial or request for further information.
  • Process all Medicare, Medicaid, and company payments for participating hospitals through electronic remittance processing software.
  • Prepare daily reconciliation of all remittances and checks posted.
  • Review each payment for compliance to rules for the carrier and post appropriate allowances.
  • Ensure payment posting is kept up-to-date.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • High School diploma or GED
  • Minimum one year of related experience
  • PC/Data entry keyboarding skills
  • Effective communication skills
  • Solid working knowledge of third-party insurance payors
  • Ability to demonstrate compassion and strong customer service skills

Preferred Skills:

  • Bilingual (Spanish) preferred
