Job Summary

A Part-Time Student Office Assistant to provide office service assistance to the Executive Administrative Assistant for the Vice Chancellor.

Department-Specific Responsibilities

  • Answers telephone calls, assess the needs of the caller, and routes information or calls to the appropriate staff member.
  • Greets and checks in all visitors, offering general office information and assistance as needed.
  • Picks up, drops off, and sorts incoming departmental mail.
  • Assists with daily office organization and record keeping
  • Answers questions and provide resources to parents, students, faculty, alumni and others.
  • Performs computer work, which may include database entry, update newsletters/calendars and producing materials for programs and workshops.
  • Assists with set-up, participation, staffing and cleanup of events such as the Student Life Kickoff and First Day of School snacks sponsored by Student Life.

EDUCATION

Required

  • Currently enrolled as a student at Indiana University Bloomington

WORK EXPERIENCE

  • 6 months office experience

  • Self-motivated and able to work well in a team environment
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools, especially Outlook, Word, and Excel
  • Comfortable interacting with a variety of people in professional or campus settings
  • Able to interact professionally, tactfully and politely with faculty, staff, students, and community representatives

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Working Conditions / Demands

The position is primarily sedentary but does involve movement around the office and campus for tasks such as mail delivery. The person in this role must be able to move items up to 25 pounds. All essential functions can be performed with or without reasonable accommodation.

Advertised Salary

$12.00 per hour

Work Hours

5 hours per week

The selected candidate must be available to work Monday through Thursday between 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. to provide office coverage during lunch periods. A minimum of 5 hours per week will be available, with additional hours potentially available based on departmental needs.
