This is a part-time position with a maximum of 1,508 hours per year and is not eligible for paid holidays, leave, or benefits.

Job Description

The Part-time Building Brains Afterschool Program Director will be responsible for assisting the Program Supervisor with planning and implementing programming to meet the needs of the children in attendance. They will collaborate and assist Afterschool Leaders with designing and implementing activities and assignments to encourage attendees intellectual, creative, artistic, and athletic enrichment and abilities.

Essential Duties

• Planning and implementing, along with the program supervisor, a daily program that meets the needs of children in attendance; setting up program, project, and activity areas as needed.
• Collaborating with and assisting afterschool leaders in designing and implementing activities and assignments that encourage students' intellectual, creative, artistic, and athletic enrichment; assisting students with completing program assignments, projects, and activities.
• Monitoring individuals and small groups of students; assuring students understand program rules and procedures; maintaining appropriate order, student conduct, and program standards of behavior; assisting in resolving student disputes and referring serious discipline problems to program supervisors.
• Monitoring children to ensure their health, safety, and physical well-being; performing routine CPR/first aid, and responding to emergency situations according to established procedures; enforcing health and safety rules and procedures.
• Interacting with children to build self-esteem and form a comfort level with their peers; answering student questions, providing proper examples, emotional support, a friendly attitude, and general guidance.
• Assisting the program supervisor with planning and conducting orientation for parents and students; acting as a liaison between parents, staff, and school personnel and assisting in conferring with parents regarding student performance and behavior as necessary.
• Assisting the program supervisor with developing and coordinating a calendar of program activities and events designed to complement student learning and enrichment; assisting with enrolling students and promoting program enrollment.
• Demonstrating and assisting students with art projects and overseeing physical activities, including but not limited to basketball, kickball, softball, dodgeball, and running; operating athletic, arts and crafts, and office equipment as assigned.
• Maintaining a clean and organized environment for students; demonstrating and involving students in cleaning and organizing program activity areas before, during, and after use; assisting with inventory of equipment and supplies and accounting procedures for budgeting and expenditures.
• Performing clerical and administrative duties in support of program activities, including preparing, typing, duplicating, filing, and maintaining records; answering telephones and scheduling activities; working with others to develop and implement a public relations agenda to communicate program objectives and activities.

Public Speaking Duties

• Lead educational programs in front of 10 to 25 children
• Participate in regular staff meetings and assist with in-service training as needed
• Interact with individuals or small groups of students with patience and grace

Other Job Requirements/Information

• This job requires fingerprinting: Candidates must undergo a comprehensive background check and obtain a satisfactory determination from the Georgia Department of Early Care and Learning (DECAL). Per Bright from the Start: Georgia Department of Early Care and Learning regulations, continued employment is contingent upon the results of a post-hire fingerprint-based background check.
• A 50-pound lift test is required.

Hourly rate

Salary will be $21.00 per hour.

Minimum Qualifications

• High school diploma AND

• One year experience working with and monitoring school-aged children in organized camp, afterschool, daycare, or similar setting

• An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above will also be considered.

• Valid driver's license

• CPR and First Aid Certification within 90 days of employment

Preferred Qualifications in addition to the above minimum qualifications

• Bachelors degree in early education, elementary education, or closely related fields, such as secondary education, special education, art, science or math.
• Supervisory experience working with and monitoring school-aged children in an organized camp, afterschool, daycare, or similar setting.
• CPR and First Aid Certification
