St. Damien of Molokai Parish | Pontiac, Michigan
One full-time position or two part-time positions
St. Damien of Molokai Parish, serving the communities of St. Vincent de Paul and St. Michael, seeks a welcoming, organized, and dependable person to support our parish office and communications.
We are a bilingual Catholic parish where the office is often someone’s first point of contact with the Church. We seek someone who will help each person feel welcomed, heard, and treated with kindness and respect while keeping parish information and daily operations organized.
Depending on applicants’ strengths and availability, this opening may be filled by one full-time employee or two part-time employees, with responsibilities divided between parish administration and communications.
Parish Administration Responsibilities
- Welcome parishioners and visitors; answer calls and emails; connect people with the appropriate staff member or ministry.
- Maintain the parish calendar, coordinate scheduling requests, and assist with appointment requests for clergy.
- Process Mass intentions, parish registrations, sacramental certificate requests, and routine correspondence according to parish procedures.
- Maintain accurate parishioner records, files, and databases.
- Assist with contribution records, envelope information, annual giving statements, and Catholic Services Appeal records in coordination with designated staff and established parish procedures.
- Provide administrative support for sacramental celebrations, including registrations, scheduling, paperwork, and communication with families.
- Handle mail, order office supplies, and prepare printed materials and weekend packets for both worship sites.
- Help document office procedures and coordinate assigned tasks with trained volunteers.
Communications Responsibilities
- Prepare and publish the weekly parish bulletin.
- Prepare parish announcements and other approved materials for weekend Masses.
- Update the parish website, social media, and outdoor electronic sign.
- Create flyers, forms, and promotional materials for parish events and ministries.
- Gather timely information from staff, faith formation programs, and ministry leaders.
- Use the parish calendar to communicate upcoming events accurately and consistently.
- Prepare communications in English and Spanish, coordinating translation and review as needed.

- Sound judgment and the ability to handle personal, sacramental, and financial information with discretion and confidentiality.
- Dependability, punctuality, and availability for an agreed, consistent work schedule.
- Comfort using email, calendars, word processing, spreadsheets, and databases, with willingness to learn parish software.
- Ability to work collaboratively, communicate clearly, and manage priorities under the direction of one designated supervisor in order to work as a team.
For the administrative position: Ability to communicate effectively in English and Spanish is required. Office, customer service, or administrative experience is preferred.
For the communications position: Strong writing, proofreading, and basic design skills are required, along with familiarity with website and social media tools. English–Spanish proficiency is strongly preferred; applicants should explain their ability to prepare or coordinate bilingual materials.
Prior parish employment is helpful but not required. Training in parish procedures and systems will be provided.
