A legal services organization in New York City is seeking a Paralegal II to support criminal appeals and post-conviction casework. This role focuses on drafting and filing appeal-related documents, managing case records, and coordinating with attorneys, courts, and clients.
About the Opportunity:
- Schedule: Monday to Friday
- Hours: 9am to 5pm
- Setting: In-office
Responsibilities:
- Review recent disposition data and identify cases appropriate for filing notices of appeal.
- Draft and file notices of appeal and documents related to the assignment of appellate counsel.
- Prepare and file motions, including motions for permission to file late notices of appeal.
- Track cases and update progress in the case management system.
- Support client and court communications, organize records, and assist with additional casework as needed.
Qualifications:
- Associate's Degree, Paralegal certificate from an ABA-accredited program, or a High School Diploma/GED with 4+ years of related work experience, including at least 2 years as a Paralegal
- Excellent computer and word processing skills, including Microsoft Word and a PDF program
- Excellent organizational skills
- Excellent communication skills
- High degree of professionalism and strong attention to detail
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines
- Ability to interact effectively and independently with courts, criminal justice agencies, attorneys, paralegals, and other support staff
