Within SEAS, the Department of Engineering & Society (E&S) focuses on engineering ethics and values interdisciplinary knowledge integration across STEM and the humanities and sociotechnical design. The Applied Mathematics (APMA) Program provides essential mathematical education for students across all engineering disciplines. Applied mathematics uses mathematical methods to model and solve real-world problems in science, engineering, business, computer science, and industry.

Position Summary

The Operations Manager is responsible either personally or through delegation for directing and managing the daily operations of the department and program, including administrative, financial, human resources, and research support functions. The Manager works closely with the department chair, center director, faculty, and the Deans Office to address operational needs, resolve issues, and support departmental and center priorities.

Responsibilities Summary

The Manager supports departmental and program leadership by guiding the development and execution of short- and long-term goals across administrative, financial, staffing, and space areas. The role collaborates with partners across SEAS and the Deans Office to ensure effective and compliant operations. They oversee:

  • Budgeting
  • Financial reporting
  • Compliance
  • Internal controls
  • Hiring processes
  • Onboarding
  • Merit cycles
  • Evaluations
  • Faculty affairs
  • Workflows
  • Space planning
  • Safety
  • IT coordination
  • Emergency preparedness

Minimum Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelors degree.
  • Experience: Two years of relevant exempt-level experience, typically in finance and budget. Relevant exempt-level experience may substitute for a degree.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Microsoft Office suite of products, Workday HR and Finance.
  • Experience developing budgets and managing finances.
  • Experience working in higher education.

Salary Range

$65,000 - $85,000 per year, commensurate with education and experience.
