Culture Fits is seeking an experienced L2 Systems Engineer for a growing Managed Service Provider in Brentwood, TN. This position is ideal for an engineer who enjoys solving complex technical problems, supporting multiple client environments, and taking ownership of infrastructure issues beyond the traditional service desk.
The L2 Systems Engineer will serve as an escalation resource for junior technicians while supporting Microsoft 365, Azure, Windows Server, virtualization, networking, and security technologies. The role also provides opportunities to participate in infrastructure upgrades, cloud migrations, and other client projects.
We're looking for someone who combines strong technical troubleshooting skills with excellent client communication, documentation, and a genuine desire to grow into a senior engineering role.
Systems & Infrastructure
Administer and troubleshoot Windows Server, Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, Group Policy, and file services.
Support VMware vSphere/ESXi and Hyper-V virtual environments, including VM provisioning, resource allocation, snapshots, and troubleshooting.
Perform server maintenance, patching, upgrades, and infrastructure health checks.
Troubleshoot server performance, storage, authentication, and connectivity issues.
Support backup and disaster recovery platforms such as Veeam and Datto, including backup monitoring, failure remediation, and restoration testing.
Microsoft 365, Azure & Endpoint Management
Administer Microsoft 365, Exchange Online, SharePoint, Teams, OneDrive, and Entra ID.
Troubleshoot identity synchronization, MFA, Conditional Access, licensing, permissions, and mail-flow issues.
Support Azure virtual machines, storage, networking, and hybrid cloud environments.
Manage Microsoft Intune, device enrollment, compliance policies, configuration profiles, and application deployment.
Assist with Microsoft 365 migrations, endpoint refreshes, and cloud infrastructure projects.
Networking & Security
Troubleshoot Layer 2/Layer 3 networking, including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, routing, switching, and wireless connectivity.
Configure and support firewalls, site-to-site VPNs, remote-access VPNs, and network security policies.
Work with technologies such as Fortinet, SonicWall, Cisco Meraki, and Ubiquiti.
Troubleshoot LAN/WAN connectivity, ISP outages, firewall rules, NAT, and network performance.
Support endpoint security, EDR/MDR, email security, MFA, and security remediation activities.
Escalations, Projects & Client Support
Serve as a technical escalation point for Tier 1 and junior Tier 2 technicians.
Own escalated issues through resolution, including root-cause analysis and client communication.
Participate in server refreshes, network upgrades, Microsoft 365 migrations, cloud deployments, and new-client onboarding.
Perform occasional onsite client visits for troubleshooting, hardware installations, and infrastructure projects.
Maintain accurate ticket notes, infrastructure documentation, network diagrams, and SOPs.
Mentor junior technicians and identify opportunities to reduce recurring tickets through automation and process improvement.
Collaborate with senior engineers and project teams on complex infrastructure issues and implementations.
3 5+ years of IT infrastructure support experience, preferably within an MSP.
Strong hands-on experience with Windows Server, Active Directory, Microsoft 365, and Entra ID.
Working knowledge of VMware or Hyper-V virtualization.
Solid understanding of networking fundamentals, including VLANs, DNS, DHCP, VPNs, routing, and switching.
Experience supporting firewalls and troubleshooting network connectivity.
Familiarity with Azure, Intune, endpoint security, and backup/recovery technologies.
Experience using PSA, RMM, and documentation platforms such as ConnectWise, Autotask, NinjaOne, IT Glue, or Hudu.
Ability to troubleshoot independently, recognize when escalation is appropriate, and communicate clearly with clients.
Ability to travel to client locations throughout the Nashville area as needed.
Experience with PowerShell scripting, Microsoft 365 migrations, Azure infrastructure, advanced firewall administration, and infrastructure project delivery is highly desirable. Certifications such as Microsoft Azure Administrator (AZ-104), CompTIA Network+, Security+, or relevant Microsoft, VMware, and networking certifications are a plus.
A successful L2 Systems Engineer doesn't simply close escalated tickets. They identify the underlying problem, communicate effectively with clients, document the resolution, and help prevent the same issue from recurring.
This is an opportunity for an engineer who wants to move beyond reactive support, take greater ownership of client infrastructure, and continue developing toward an L3 Systems Engineer or Project Engineer role.
