Jefferson is seeking former Senior Executive Service (SES) members to serve as Mentors to support a mentor program with a federal agency. This position is most likely an independent consultant versus a full-time employee.

This role will be Hybrid with the preponderance of the client work done on-site in Washington, DC.

This is an unfunded position, currently awaiting award decision from the government. Compensation decisions depend on a wide range of factors, including but not limited to skill sets, experience and training, security clearances, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct monthly one-on-one mentoring sessions (60-90 minutes) with assigned mentees (up to 10 mentees anticipated per cohort), providing tailored guidance on leadership development, career progression, and executive readiness.
  • Support mentor/mentee matching and relationship launch, including reviewing participant goals, aligning mentor expertise to mentee needs, and helping set expectations for the mentoring relationship.
  • Participate in and support required on-site program events, including Kickoff/Orientation, Midpoint event, and Closing event.
  • Plan and facilitate (or co-facilitate) at least one group mentoring session (up to two hours), supporting peer learning and shared problem-solving among mentees
  • Provide practical, experience-based guidance grounded in SES-level leadership, including navigating complex stakeholder environments, leading through change, and strengthening executive communication.
  • Coordinate with program leadership as needed to support mentoring quality and program objectives (e.g., check-ins, scheduling coordination, and issue escalation where appropriate).
  • Maintain professionalism, discretion, and confidentiality in all mentoring engagements, consistent with federal workplace expectations and sensitive information handling.

Required Qualifications:

  • Former Senior Executive Service (SES)
  • Minimum of 6 years of formal mentoring experience (at multiple organizational levels). Formal mentorship experience in a federal or state government setting preferred.
  • Formal training, development, or certification in mentoring or coaching in area of expertise (specifically supporting aspiring leaders and new supervisors is a plus).
  • Ability and willingness to conduct the majority of engagement activities on-site in Washington, DC (hybrid role; on-site expectation for program sessions and events).
  • Strong facilitation and interpersonal skills, including the ability to build trust, provide candid feedback, and tailor guidance to individual development goals.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and professional boundaries in a non-personal services environment.

This position will most likely be an independent consultant rather than a full time employee.
