A Brief Overview
The Medical Director will provide psychiatric and administrative leadership of CHOP's outpatient program for children, adolescents, and young adults with psychosis. The role includes oversight of diagnostic evaluation services, developmentally appropriate, guideline-based psychopharmacology, coordination with physical health care, and comprehensive risk assessment and crisis/safety planning. A primary responsibility is serving as Medical Director of CHOP's First Episode Psychosis Program (CHOP FEP), a Coordinated Specialty Care (CSC) program for adolescents and young adults experiencing a first episode of psychosis, ensuring fidelity to the CSC model, including team-based care, CBT-based individual therapy, family psychoeducation, supported education and employment, case management, peer support, and coordinated pharmacotherapy. The Medical Director will develop outreach partnerships with emergency departments, inpatient units, schools, and primary care providers to reduce the duration of untreated psychosis, and sustain the program as a learning health system by monitoring pathway-to-care, duration of untreated psychosis, clinical and functional outcomes, and engagement metrics to guide quality improvement. Responsibilities also include teaching and supervising fellows, residents, and trainees; contributing to scholarship, research implementation, grant development, staffing, and budgeting. The Medical Director will collaborate closely with an interdisciplinary leadership team and Research Director to fulfill the clinical, educational, advocacy, and research missions of the program.
Required qualifications include an MD or DO, board certification or eligibility in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, eligibility for Pennsylvania medical licensure, active DEA registration, and expertise in evidence-based treatment of psychotic disorders in youth. Preferred qualifications include experience with Coordinated Specialty Care or early psychosis programs, such as NAVIGATE or OnTrackNY; multidisciplinary team leadership; quality-improvement experience; and academic productivity appropriate for a university faculty appointment.
