Medical Billing Specialist

Your Opportunity

We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Medical Billing Associate to join our remote Revenue Cycle Management team. This role is responsible for the full billing cycle — from accurate code assignment and claim submission through payment posting, denial resolution, and collections — with a focus on clean claims, timely reimbursement, and compliance.

What You'll Do

• Billing, Coding & Claims
• • Review clinical documentation and assign accurate diagnosis and procedure codes in accordance with payer guidelines and coding regulations (ICD-10, CPT, HCPCS).
  • Process and submit insurance claims, ensuring coding accuracy and compliance with payer-specific requirements.
  • Verify claim accuracy prior to submission and resolve billing discrepancies proactively.
• Collections & A/R Follow-Up
• • Investigate and follow up on unpaid balances, underpayments, and outstanding claims.
  • Work directly with insurance carriers to resolve reimbursement issues and recover collectible dollars.
  • Track, submit, and follow up on appeals and reconsiderations through resolution.
• Payment Posting & Account Maintenance
• • Accurately post insurance and patient payments to accounts.
  • Maintain clear, concise, and timely notations of all account activity.
  • Maintain accurate patient billing records and documentation in the practice management system.
• Compliance & Collaboration
• • Stay current on coding updates, payer policy changes, and industry regulations.
  • Collaborate with providers and administrative staff to support efficient, compliant billing operations.
  • Assist with internal audits and implement best practices to improve billing accuracy and clean claim rates.
  • Adhere to established procedures, protocols, and HIPAA requirements; escalate complex issues to supervisor as appropriate.
• Complete additional tasks as assigned.

What You Bring

• 3+ years of experience in medical billing and coding within a healthcare setting.
• Experience in Sleep Medicine and/or DME billing strongly preferred.
• Strong understanding of medical coding standards (ICD-10, CPT, HCPCS), billing workflows, and insurance claim processes.
• Professional coding certification (CPC, CCS, RHIT, or RHIA) is a plus.
• Experience working with private medical practices or outpatient clinics preferred.
• Exceptional attention to detail, accuracy, and organizational skills.
• Strong critical thinking and problem-solving ability, with capacity to work through complex claim and reimbursement issues.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and manage priorities in a remote environment.
• Genuine interest in sleep, health, and helping people better understand and improve their well-being.

Compensation

$24.00 - $29.00 per hour depending on experience.
